Introduction to Shenzhen Self-driving Tibet Tour

Shenzhen is located on the coast of Guangdong, and Tibet is a land on the southwest plateau. It is still very challenging to travel to Tibet by car from Shenzhen. You will encounter various special geographical environments and harsh climates along the way, so you need to be fully prepared. Let me share with you my tips for traveling on the road.

1. Route suggestions

If the main purpose of your trip is the scenery of Tibet and the Sichuan-Tibet Line, it is recommended that you start from Chengdu and take the standard national highway 318 Sichuan-Tibet Line to Lhasa , so the travel time is shorter.

If you want to go to some major tourist cities in Yunnan, such as Kunming, Dali, Lijiang, Shangri-La, and Meili Snow Mountain, you can take the Yunnan-Tibet Line. After the Mangkang line in Tibet merges with the Sichuan-Tibet line, you can continue to take the Sichuan-Tibet line, but this journey will take longer.

Below, I will make a plan for you mainly based on the itinerary of the Sichuan-Tibet Line.

2. Detailed itinerary

Tibet trip (3-4 days)

Day 1: Shenzhen - (Qiandongnan Prefecture, Guizhou Province) Zhaoxing Dongcun

The journey is about 800 kilometers. The scenery of Zhaoxing Dong Village is beautiful and the village is very unique. It is recommended to visit for a day.

Day two: Zhaoxing Dong Village

Zhaoxing Dong Village is known as the largest Dong village and is a village with distinctive characteristics. There are several wind and rain bridges in the village, which are full of national characteristics. I suggest you go and have fun.

The third day: - Chengdu, Zhaoxing Dong Village

The journey is about 1,000 kilometers and is expected to take 12 hours. After arriving in Chengdu, it is recommended to take a day trip to replenish Tibet supplies.

Day 4: Visit Chengdu for one day.

You can visit Kuanzhai Alley, Wuhou Temple and other scenic spots, taste Chengdu food and buy some auxiliary materials.

Self-driving tour on the Sichuan-Tibet Line (estimated 7-8 days)

Departing from Chengdu, the Sichuan-Tibet Line will be officially opened. Vehicles must be inspected before departure, and personnel must ensure that they are not sick or have a fever.

Day 1: Chengdu - Xindu Bridge

The journey is 360 kilometers, and it is expected to take about 10 hours to complete Zhezi Mountain and Gaoersi Mountain. Now, they should all be through the tunnel. Luding, Kangding, Luding Bridge, Kangding Grassland, etc. Are all attractions worth visiting? For photography enthusiasts, Xinduqiao is a photography paradise, but Xinduqiao is at a high altitude. If you stay in Xinduqiao, you must be prepared for altitude sickness and take medicine in time.

The news a few days ago said that there was heavy snow in the mountains and more than 1,000 vehicles were blocked. Friends entering Tibet should pay attention to weather conditions and road conditions.

The next day: Xinduqiao-Daocheng Yading

The journey is about 450 kilometers, and it takes about 8 or 9 hours to run. In addition to enjoying the scenery along the way, concentrate on the road.

The third day: Daocheng Yading

The one-day tour mainly includes Xiannairi, Luorong Cow Farm, Milk Sea, Five Color Sea and other scenic spots. The climate on the plateau is cold, so be sure to wear more clothes.

Day 4: Batang, Aden, Daocheng,——

The journey is more than 400 kilometers. There are many plateau scenery in this section, such as Haizi Mountain and Sister Sea. Watch as you go, no need to rush. The conditions in Batang are better and the accommodation will be more comfortable. Once you arrive, remember to refuel before checking into your hotel.

Day 5: Batang-Batu

The journey is about 400 kilometers, about 10-12 hours. This section of the road passes through the Jinsha River and Lancang River. After passing Mangkang, you can have lunch. This section of the road officially enters the Tibetan area. You start to check the documents and speed limits, and experience the discomfort and necessity of various speed limits. Because if there is no speed limit, traffic accidents are really easy to happen, and there are too many detours and dangerous road sections. There will be rockfalls on some sections of this trip, so please pay attention to driving safety. Don't drive too fast. After passing Rumei Town, we went all the way up the mountain. The cliff scenery on one side was very shocking. Drivers need to pay special attention when driving, the road conditions are really dangerous. The landscapes of this section include Dongda Mountain, Bangda Prairie, Yela Mountain, Turn 72, Nujiang Bridge, and Anjula Mountain. This day's itinerary is not too tight.

Day 6: Linzhi, Basu——

The journey is more than 400 kilometers, passing through Ranwu Lake, 3888 kilometers of road pillars, Midui Glacier, J

Day 7: Linzhi - Lhasa

The whole journey is more than 400 kilometers. It is recommended to take the Linla Expressway. There are fewer cars and the road conditions are good. You can reach Lhasa quickly. If you take Old National Highway 318, you will spend more time on the road, so you need to work hard to catch up.

On the way, you have to cross the Mira Pass, the highest altitude on the Sichuan-Tibet line. The climate in the mountains is changeable, so be careful to keep warm and cold.

Tour of Lhasa and surrounding attractions (3-5 days)

According to your own interests, you can reserve 3-5 days to visit the Potala Palace, Barkhor Street, Jokhang Temple, Drepung Monastery, Norbulingka and other scenic spots as well as the surrounding Yangzhuoyongcuo, Yangpajing, Everest Base Camp, Namtso and other scenic spots. It takes at least 2-3 days to get back and forth from Everest Base Camp, and 1 day to Namtso.

The beautiful Potala Palace and the golden bell on the roof of the Jokhang Temple.

Return to Qinghai-Tibet Line (3-4 days)

Day 1: Lhasa Amdo, — —

The whole journey is about 600 kilometers. If you have not been to Namtso before, you can visit Namtso on the way. However, in this case, schedule and time are tight. It's best to start early in the morning.

The next day: Anduo-Golmud

The whole journey is more than 700 kilometers, which is a long distance. Especially when passing through plateau frozen soil areas, special attention should be paid to dark ice and dark pits, which pose great risks to driving safety.

What needs special reminder here is that the main body of the Qinghai-Tibet Line of National Highway 109 is built on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, and the roadbed is almost made of frozen soil. Due to the constant rolling back and forth of large trucks and the unique characteristics of frozen soil, many sections of the road can be viewed from a distance without any problems. In fact, many wave pits have been pressed out. Once the vehicle speed is too fast, fails to avoid in time, or operates improperly when encountering an oncoming vehicle, it may lead to major accidents such as running off the roadbed, crashing, or overturning. Many self-driving friends have never had any accidents on the Sichuan-Tibet Line. On the contrary, on the return journey of the Qinghai-Tibet line, they were careless and drove too fast, which led to tragedy. This is an area that requires special attention.

On the way, you will pass through the Hoh Xil Nature Reserve and Sonam Dajie Conservation Station, where you will most likely see Tibetan antelopes.

The third day: Golmud-Qinghai Lake

The whole journey is more than 600 kilometers. On the way, you can visit Chaerhan Salt Lake or Chaka Salt Lake. My personal suggestion is to go to Chaerhan Salt Lake. There are a lot less people and the scenery is as beautiful as Chaka Salt Lake. The landscape is ruined. I suggest you go to Qinghai Lake for a day.

The journey from Qinghai Lake back to Shenzhen (3-4 days)

Day 1: West Qinghai Lake -

The whole journey is about 1,100 kilometers. Many places have speed limits and cameras. It is best to turn on the electronic dog during the whole process. You can stay in Xi'an for a day or two, visit Qin Shihuang's Mausoleum, Shaanxi Provincial Museum, West Ancient City and other places, and eat mutton steamed buns.

The next day: A day in Xi’an.

It is recommended that you stay in Xi'an for about 1 day. You must visit the Terracotta Warriors and Horses of Qin Shihuang, Shaanxi History Museum and the Ancient City Wall of Xian. Muslim Street is famous, but feels average. There are a lot of noodles in Xi’an, but I’m from the south and I’m not used to eating them. Northerners should like it very much.

The third day: Yueyang, Xi'an——

The journey is about 900 kilometers. After arriving, you can visit Yueyang Tower and take a look at the scenery of the 800-mile Dongting.

Day 4: Yueyang - Shenzhen

The journey is about 900 kilometers. Go home. If you take the Yunnan-Tibet line, you must not miss these places.

Compared with the Sichuan-Tibet Line, the Yunnan-Tibet Line has several high-quality tourist cities, such as Cangshan, Erhai, Dali Ancient City, Xizhou, Shuanglang and other Dali attractions. It's worth spending 3-4 days to savor it slowly. The charm of Lijiang Old Town and the beauty of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain will keep you here for days. Shangri-La Dukezong Ancient City (unfortunately, it was destroyed by a fire in 2014.

3. Notes

The Meili Snow Mountain and Yunnan-Tibet Line are more adaptable to Tibet and will not suffer from altitude sickness. Intense.

Starting from Ya'an, the Sichuan-Tibet Line has been going through mountains and ridges, and many sections of the road will be over 3,000 meters above sea level. Friends, it is easy to suffer from altitude sickness. This experience is really not a comfortable feeling.

The Yunnan-Tibet Line starts from Dali and climbs slowly at an altitude of more than 2,000 meters. After visiting, recuperating and adapting to Lijiang, Shangri-La and other places, the human body can gradually adapt to the hypoxic and dry environment of the plateau, which is conducive to the body's gradual adaptation to the subsequent journey.

So we will also see more friends riding into Tibet on the Yunnan-Tibet Line.

However, relatively speaking, the Yunnan-Tibet Line takes longer. Since there are many tourist cities and attractions along the Yunnan-Tibet Line, in order to meet the needs of sightseeing, the stay time is often longer. For many friends who have limited vacation time, there will be problems with itinerary arrangements.
