History Summary Shaanxi has a long history and is famous for its national culture. Shaanxi, the birthplace of civilization, is one of the glorious birthplaces of ancient Chinese civilization. About 800 thousand years ago, Lantian ape-man lived in this land and began to make and use some primitive tools to collect fruits and hunt birds and animals. The "Lantian Ape Man" discovered in 1963 is the earliest and most complete ape-man skull fossil found in China. About 30,000 to 40,000 years ago, primitive humans in Guanzhong area gradually entered the clan commune period. 1953 discovered Xi' an banpo village site, which was a settlement village of matriarchal clan commune six or seven thousand years ago.

Shaanxi is the birthplace of agriculture and one of the earliest areas of agricultural production and development in China. About 6000 years ago, Banpo people engaged in agricultural production, raising livestock, hunting and fishing, and collecting fruits here. The grain planted at that time was mainly millet. Legend has it that the ancestors of Zhou people in Guanzhong, Shaanxi Province were the first to plant millet and wheat. By the end of the Western Zhou Dynasty, the agricultural production in Guanzhong area had a new development and spread to other areas.
