1972 in the presidential election, in order to obtain information about the internal campaign strategy of the democratic party, on June 1972, five people led by James McChord, the chief security adviser of the Nixon campaign team of the United States and the party, sneaked into the office of the Democratic National Committee in Watergate Building, Washington, and were arrested on the spot while installing bugs and taking photos of relevant documents.

Because of this, Nixon announced his resignation the next day on August 8 1974, thus becoming the first president in American history to resign because of a scandal. Related to this are film and television works such as "Amazing Conspiracy".

The newly appointed special prosecutor found new evidence in the tapes that the White House was forced to hand over. A tape clearly recorded that six days after Watergate, Nixon instructed his assistant to let the CIA obstruct the FBI's investigation of Watergate. This is the ironclad proof of Nixon's cover-up.

The whole White House was stunned. They always believe that the president is innocent and always exceed their authority to protect the president. However, the president covered up the truth from the beginning, deceiving his advisers, the public, Congress and even his family for two years. Everyone feels betrayed. Even some senators and representatives of the party advised him to resign. Nixon finally reached the point of alienation.
