Why are hotel pillows soft and hard?

The hotel doesn't know what every guest likes about pillows. I prefer hard pillows or soft pillows, so I usually put a pillow for guests to choose from, so the hotel will put two pillows on the bed. A marketing model of the hotel, and a service measure made by the hotel to meet guests with different preferences.
