Saihanba Travel Guide

More than 300 years ago, Saihanba was covered with deep virgin forests and vast and beautiful grasslands, where wild animals roamed. It can be said to be unique. During the Kangxi period, Saihanba was even designated as the Mulan Paddock, and a large-scale royal hunting event was held every year or every other year, which was the famous Mulan Autumn.

Unfortunately, the good times did not last long. Hundreds of years later, Saihanba experienced disaster. By the time New China was founded, the former royal hunting grounds had lost their elegance, and the primeval forests had disappeared, reaching a state of deathly silence and desolation that was beyond the reach of birds and covered by yellow sand. The days have passed slowly, and Saihanba seems to have faded out of people's sight. In 2001, the state sent a scientific research team to explore the causes of sandstorms along desertification routes in Hebei Province. Unexpectedly, I accidentally discovered a mirage in the desert. The forest is rippling with blue waves, green and cool, the reflection of the natural lake is picturesque, and the lakeside is covered with wild flowers. Although it is midsummer, the refreshing air meets people and the refreshing autumn colors are clear.

This mirage is the Saihanba that people have forgotten for a long time. This is a myth. The magnificent Royal Hunting Garden was trampled down by history, but miraculously reappeared in front of us. What is even more touching is that the dense forest is not natural, but has been planted tree by tree by two generations of Saihanba over the past 40 years. Once discovered, this beauty will be widely spread. During the current year, except for the seven months of isolation in the ice, there are always visitors here. Saihanba is about 500 kilometers away from Beijing and there is no train. Most tourists drive there, departing on Friday, riding across the grassland on Saturday, and returning to Beijing on Sunday. Departing at 7 o'clock in the morning, take Jingmi Road out of Gubeikou, take National Highway 101, turn left at Shuangta Mountain, follow the secondary highway to Weichang County, continue northbound, and the bus enters the vast forest sea of ??Saihanba. Linhai is located at the southernmost end of Saihanba. When I came here in the summer, I was faced with lush green and only one narrow road that ran through the entire forest area.

When you climb the Saihan Tower, you can see it from a distance. The blue sky is as clear as water. The trees seemed to be facing the clouds, and the clouds seemed to be hanging on the treetops. The beautiful forest undulates with the mountains, its splendor is indescribable. Autumn is even more beautiful, with golden flowers all over the mountains and plains dyed in autumn colors, attracting painters and photographers from all walks of life, for fear of missing this rare scenic spot. The average altitude of Bashang Grassland is 1,700 meters. The climate in summer is cool and pleasant, and the maximum temperature generally does not exceed 25 degrees Celsius.

Compared with the hot summer sauna days in Beijing, this place can be said to be paradise on earth. Further along, there is a vast grassland in the northeast of Saihanba, bordering Inner Mongolia. It has a natural wild charm and is favored by film and television people. The exterior scenes of many dramas such as "The Legend of the Condor Heroes" and "My Fair Princess" were shot here. You must ride a horse when you come to the grassland. Many people use the poem "stepping on flowers to repay the scent of horseshoes" to describe the romantic feeling of riding horses on the grassland, but I hope to capture the heroic feeling of Kangxi when he saw the horse, the sky licking the earth, and the mountains under his feet. The best horses here should be considered the military horses at the military horse farm. They are well-trained, calm and self-controlled, and most of them will not be frightened by the flying red gauze of the rider. The herdsmen’s own herd horses are much timid.

When riding a horse, they must be careful not to let their clothes fly up, and their clothes must not be so dazzling that they scare the horses. But having said that, when riding in Saihanba, there is no need to panic even if you accidentally fall off your horse. Local herders often say that if you ride with wet shoes, you will be saved if you fall on the grass. This means that the grass on the dam is deep and leafy. When you fall, the grass will hold you up and prevent you from being injured. According to the three-day schedule, riding horses on the grassland will only last about three or four hours at most, and then you can see the beautiful lake on the grassland and the sunset on the lake. Qixing Lake is located three kilometers north of the forest farm, surrounded by green mountains and green trees. Initially, seven small lakes were connected together and arranged like a big lake

Some wilderness groups are always happy to camp by the lake, not only because you can take pictures of the sunrise through the morning fog at dawn, but also because How wonderful it is to hear the wind in the grasslands and the sounds of water birds in the silent night. Jiangjunpaozi is located in the south of Wulan Tongtong (meaning red urn-shaped mountain). It consists of two lakes, one large and one small. The surrounding grass is beautiful, the lake is ecologically balanced, and there are many kinds of wild fish.

On sunny days, fish and gravel are clearly visible. Legend has it that this is the famous Ulan Butong ancient battlefield. In the 30th year of Kangxi's reign, Galdan launched a rebellion and annexed Gorkha Mongolia, then advanced into Monan Mongolia and invaded Ulanbutong. Kangxi's uncle, General Tong Guogang, commanded the Qing army, set up red artillery, and fired multiple shells to destroy Camel City. Gauldin had to flee.

Unfortunately, Tong Guogang died on the battlefield, and his blood dyed the bubble water red. In order to commemorate this outstanding general, later generations called this place General Pao. If you have enough time, in addition to these introductions, Saihan Dam also has many beautiful scenery that will be discovered by different eyes. Then you return to your accommodation with a full harvest, the sky is full of stars, you sing and dance around the campfire, and taste the delicious Mongolian roasted whole lamb. The day may seem short, but the content of the day is extremely rich. The happy weekend is basically over. Take a rest and have sweet dreams.

On Sunday morning, you can head to Beijing without any regrets. 055-79000 is a good choice, indicating accommodation camps and staying in herdsmen’s homes. If you like to stay comfortably, the hotels here will be better, but you have to book in advance, otherwise it will be difficult to get a room on weekends and the price will definitely be high. There are also ways to save money, but don’t be afraid of trouble: take train 2559 from Beijing to Chifeng, get off at Siheyong Station (41 yuan, 7 hours), then take a minibus to Weichang County (5 yuan, 30 minutes), Then transfer to Saihanba Mechanical Forest Farm (13 yuan, 4 hours); taking a long-distance bus back to Beijing (Xizhimen) is more convenient than going there.

1. Saihanba has a large temperature difference between morning and evening. Although it is midsummer, you must bring a set of thick and wear-resistant long-sleeved trousers, otherwise it will be inconvenient and uncomfortable in the morning and evening and when riding horses.

2. The sunshine on the plateau is strong, so don’t be blinded by the cool breeze. Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a sun hat are also a must. 3. Bring more drinking water and snacks on the road in case of emergencies.

4. For those who like to sleep outdoors and travel at night, don’t forget to bring a flashlight and anti-mosquito ointment. 5. To be an environmentally friendly traveler, be careful not to run into grass with your car; try to stay away from forested areas when riding a horse, and actively refuse to buy wild animals that are prohibited from hunting or collecting. Return to Beijing after lunch, take ZH9588 back to Wuhan at 21:20 (arrive at 23:00), and end the pleasant grassland trip! Bashang travel tip: Mulan Paddock is located at the junction of Weichang County, Hebei Province and Keshiketeng Banner, Inner Mongolia. It is called Saihanba National Forest Park and includes Mechanical Forest Farm, Yudaokou Ranch and Hongshan Army Horse Farm.

The pasture is vast, the water and grass are abundant, and there are flocks of cattle and sheep. It is a veritable forest grassland.

In fact, Bashang refers to the area north of Zhangjiakou and Chengde in Hebei Province, including Zhangbei Bashang, Guyuan Bashang, Fengning Bashang, and Weichang Bashang. It starts from Zhangbei in the west, crosses Guyuan and Fengning in the middle, and reaches Weichang in the east. Most of them are in Hebei Province, including Zhangbei, Guyuan, Fengning, and Mulanweichang, with Fengning developing the earliest. Mulan means sentry deer in Manchu, which comes from the fact that Mulan Paddock has been a hunting place for Qing emperors since ancient times. Saihanba is the pearl of Mulan Paddock. It is called Saihandabahansqin in Mongolian, which means beautiful Gaoling. Mulan Weichang has many scenic spots, such as Birch Valley, Jiangjun Paozi (some lakes are called Paozi by locals), Cai Wu, etc. In fact, once you enter the paddock, you'll be buzzing with excitement. Whether it is a scenic spot or not is no longer important. Note: Clothing: Temperatures in the Mulan paddock are cold. Even in summer, you need to wear long pants.

Be sure to take measures to prevent cold and frost in winter, and bring enough winter clothes, hats, and gloves. It is best to wear hiking shoes, sports shoes, etc. Food: Mainly beef and mutton. The resort has a restaurant, which is relatively hygienic. The most distinctive ones are roasted whole lamb and braised pork. The taste depends on each craft. Accommodation: There are many hotels in Dujiacun and mountain villages. Accommodation is not an issue. Go on a road trip to Saihanba for a self-driving tour: Jingcheng 101 National Road is in average condition, one-way and one-lane, 220km. There are more cars and some roads have been built. The secondary highway from Chengde to Weichang is in good condition, with two lanes in one direction and 140 kilometers. There are not many cars and it is the smoothest section of the whole journey. The winding mountain road of the Weichang-Qipanshan-Saihanba Gate secondary road is narrow, one-way and one-lane, 55km. There are not many cars and many curves, so slow down and drive slowly. Saihanba Gate-Mechanical Forestry winding mountain road, gravel road, stone road, broken asphalt road, asphalt road, 30 kilometers, the road conditions are complicated. Mechanical Forest Farm-Hejie Gravel Road, 10 kilometers. He Jie-Hongshan Military Racecourse asphalt road, 7 kilometers.

The road conditions are good and there are few cars. Charges: Tolls: 10 yuan from National Highway 101 to Bashikoying, 5 yuan from Chengde (if you take the outer ring), 10 yuan from the outer route. Tickets: Saihanba National Park 33 yuan/person, no transportation fee. The entrance to the racecourse is 20 yuan per person, and there is no charge for cars. Except for Princess Lake, which is 15 yuan/person, there is no charge for the car, and there is no additional charge for other attractions. On the way back, we went from the forest farm to the Moon Lake at the entrance of Saihanba Park for 20 yuan/person. I strongly recommend not to go there for 3 yuan (there is nothing. There is an archery stall, balloons and the like by the lake. I really regret going there. Hebei People are not as down-to-earth as Mongolians, and there are no extra charges for so many attractions in Bashang.) Food: There is nothing delicious. Maybe I didn’t eat it either.

Restaurants are not cheap. Most breakfasts include 5 yuan, 10 yuan, rolls, porridge, eggs, pickles, and 10 yuan milk tea and milk tofu. Living: We are alive

Most of the inns and hotels in the military horse farm do not have heating. It will be very difficult to live without heating at this time or in the future. It was very cold at night. I didn't dare stay in a farmhouse because the people there didn't care about cleanliness and looked like they hadn't taken a shower in three months. Maybe I'm too picky and shouldn't care too much. This kind of room usually costs 100-200 yuan a room. The hotel buildings there are all two-story high. The outside of the building is land, so the inside of the building is full of soil and mud. I don't know why they don't wipe a concrete floor in front of the door. The Beijing Military Region Guest House looks relatively clean, but the price is the most expensive. The standard room is 280 yuan, but there is no heating. You might consider going in the summer. Good: It’s better to drive yourself. Because once you get there, it’s inconvenient to go anywhere without a car.

However, there is a local car rental, Beijing Jeep 2020, with driver, 250 yuan/half day. Many people who drive there rent 2020, and it is really inconvenient to drive to many places. Near Jiapigou, we saw a Buick. Everyone in the Buick got out and picked up rocks on the road. The chassis is too low to pass over big rocks. However, we also saw a Li Xia sedan with a Beijing license plate driving mercilessly on a hard road. Others: There is a big temperature difference between day and night on Bashang, so bring more clothes. Bargain price for horseback riding, usually ranging from 20-40. We rode three times in one trip, the cheapest one was 20 yuan an hour, and the most expensive one was 30 yuan. The cheapest horse is the best. Well, that’s all I remember.
