The editor's attitude towards media interviews in this paragraph.
Shambhala: As far as we know, you have many titles, such as planner, architect, interior designer and furniture designer. Among these titles, which ones are you most familiar with or like, such as the famous designer Liang Zhitian? Why?
Liang Zhitian: Actually, I think I am a life designer, whether I am an architect, a planner or a furniture designer. In fact, design has a lot to do with people. In fact, design has a lot in common. Whether you are a fashion designer or an interior designer, it reflects people's attitude towards life in contemporary society. Of course, architectural design is different from interior design, and architecture is eternal and practical. Interior design is a little bigger in the division of space, so everything is a part of our life and cannot be completely separated!
Shambhala: In that case, Wong Kar-wai is also good at interior design? (Laughter ...)
Liang Zhitian: Yes, on the other hand, if I make a movie, I can make a good movie. (Laughter ...)
Shambhala: If you were asked to make a movie, which one would you choose?
Liang Zhitian: Actually, I am very interested in making movies or advertising! Actually, I have many interests. If a person has a feeling and understanding of life, no matter what he does, he will have a different view from others. Usually this view will inspire many people. Let's say Wong Kar-wai is an interior designer. Maybe he doesn't know how to draw pictures or materials. But there must be a concept. Maybe he didn't design his movie scenes, but he certainly gave them a lot of advice.
Actually, I study architecture, and I don't have any professional interior design training. I study while working. At first, I really couldn't catch some things, but I had a concept and I knew what my requirements were. Then I asked my designer to give me a plan. I thought it was good, but I had to change it. In fact, technology is really not difficult, and you can master it slowly. But the most important thing is that the concepts are the same, and they all reflect and understand life the same.
Shambhala: You studied architectural design at first, and then you did interior design. This is a process from big to small, and then from home design to furniture design. The scope of this design is shrinking. What kind of accumulation does this process from macro to micro to concrete need?
Liang Zhitian: I think this is a very logical and reasonable process. Many famous architects abroad do interior design, and many classic interior designs are also done by architects. Architects will also take over interior design if they have requirements for their own buildings, otherwise they will feel very dissatisfied. Many media have asked me what my goal is and where I will go in the future. I will say that besides furniture, I will also do product design, including: wine bottles and handbags; I also hope to start from the restaurant and have my own hotel. If I really have the chance to own a hotel, it will be my ultimate dream. A hotel includes rooms, restaurants, bars and a front desk. Hotels are places where people can enjoy together. Whether you are eating, work should be like at home. Hotels include all parts of life. The media will also ask me what I want to do after I retire, and I will tell them that I want to eat in a hotel.
Cook in the hall. I joked with Tony (Tony Chi) about why so many restaurants are designed. He said it was because he liked eating. Actually, I like eating, too. Wherever I go, I go to different restaurants and eat different dishes. I helped my mother cook when I was very young, but not much. So I am still very interested in learning to be a chef. Like many famous chefs now, the ingredients are prepared by themselves, including soy sauce and the like. This is a truth! As an interior designer, I design cups, furniture and products myself. That would be even more perfect. So in order to be more perfect, we should start with very small things.
Shambhala: In terms of furniture, you designed three series for MAXXA. Why did you choose to cooperate with MAXXA at the beginning, and the cooperation lasted for so long? On the surface, this cooperative relationship will last for a long time!
Liang Zhitian: Actually, the cooperation with MAXXA is a very accidental opportunity. As I said before, my first set of furniture was designed for myself. Later, I went to Shanghai to start a company. There happens to be an attic in the company, which is my office, and I put this set of furniture there. Because it is original, many people come to ask me if this set of furniture is for sale. So I asked the manufacturer to make it for me. This is the beginning of my design and sales of furniture.
About half a year later, I met MAXXA's boss through a friend's introduction. He said they also wanted to make furniture, and it was original. I like his idea very much. Because I found that I can only design furniture. If I have to manage it, I am not good at service and delivery. During those six months, my furniture sold well, but there were also many complaints. It's not that my design is not good, but because it's custom-made, and the quantity is small, there is no fixed manufacturer, and the furniture made is different. And there is also a loss when delivering the goods. After my summary, business is not good, and I am not cut out for business. So when MAXXA offered to cooperate, I was extremely happy. I don't have to worry about anything else, just concentrate on the design. Now production, promotion and service are all managed by MAXXA. Now I have designed three series for MAXXA. Through MAXXA, I made a set of furniture for a Japanese company at the beginning of this year, which will be listed in Japan in September this year. This kind of furniture is specially designed for small Japanese families. They specially invited me to visit many wooden handicrafts. In Japan, there is a place called Qingshan, which is an ancient city. There are many carpenters here. Why? That's because this ancient city is next to Kyoto, which was once the capital of Japan. There are many wooden buildings there. Those buildings were all built by these carpenters. They have been handed down from generation to generation, so the best wooden buildings in Japan come from here. I stayed here for a few days, looked at their craftsmanship, visited their factories, and then learned about Japanese culture from the perspective of Hong Kong people or China people, and then made it. Therefore, Japanese companies are still very satisfied.

Shambhala: Your design style is mainly modern and simple. I heard that your family education is very strict. Does this have anything to do with your simple style? What are the main factors in your minimalist style?
Liang Zhitian: There are many aspects! Generally speaking, people's life is the pursuit of a comfortable lifestyle. Everyone lives for himself, not for others. This is the attitude of modern people towards life. This attitude towards life has a lot to do with simple style. My family background has a lot to do with my personality! I was born in a big family. Father is the eldest son and I am the eldest grandson. My grandfather placed great hopes on me, but I didn't study well, so I chose to study architecture.
Our family's educational requirements have been very high since childhood, and we are never allowed to go to school barefoot and wear shorts. These details make life regular from small to large. I am very efficient, and I have very high requirements for details, which is also related to simple style!
Shambhala: If many details are put together, it may not reach a very simple state. Regularity will lead to constant repetition. Will this lead to the integration of many styles?
Liang Zhitian: I don't think so. How can designers do a good job? Now many designers are doing very well, including some designers in our company. They are all very talented, but sometimes I still have to modify their designs! That's because they all have the same shortcomings and don't know how to give up. Especially young designers, they want to express their ideas through a case and project. But there are too many ideas. If you put them in the same project, there will be too many. When they are asked to choose, they don't know how to choose. So it is very important to be able to make this choice. But the choice is different in different projects. Just like ordering food in a restaurant, knowing what you want will make ordering food faster. Otherwise, you want to eat too much and you can't decide. You won't know what to order with this menu for a long time. So ordering food is the same as this choice.
Shambhala: So what would you think if there were some cases of design failure?
Liang Zhitian: It is impossible to fail, but the results of some projects have not reached my ideal. There are many reasons for this, which may really be the wrong choice, or the collocation, technology and materials, but my idea is good. In this process, some factors have caused many projects to have different degrees of regret.
Shambhala: This society is very realistic. Many customers value the brand effect of Liang Zhitian, so your works can't go wrong or even decline.
Liang Zhitian: You're talking about my heart (haha ...) Actually, I'm under a lot of pressure. My pressure is not how to find customers, but how to do a good job in a project. If I don't do well, the worst thing may be that my customers won't patronize me, or how bad Liang Zhitian is outside. But this kind of punishment is the last thing I can stand. If we don't do our job well and the project isn't done well, this is my deepest sorrow. However, in this process, we did it with our heart. Some external factors that we can't control, or customers ask for too many changes, make it impossible for us to proceed, and we will choose to give up halfway.
Shambhala: You said before that you were not a very good operator, but now you also run your own design company. It's done very well. Excuse me, are you just a design director in the company or do you also play an operational role?
Liang Zhitian: I'm a director and producer, and occasionally I come out as a supporting actor. In my company, there are three directors who design this piece alone. They are responsible for different design affairs and are well managed in operation. I just need to grasp the general direction and decide the direction of future development, which is very important. Our company has been making progress from the beginning. You only know me, because I have done many clubs and model houses. Now we begin to do hotel projects step by step, including domestic, Hong Kong and foreign countries. Therefore, I hope to adjust the company from a model house to a hotel and make it international, so that it can rush out of Hong Kong, go out of Asia and go international.
Shambhala: Speaking of internationalization, as a pioneer in the field of design, what kind of responsibilities and burdens do you have for the development of China's design field?
Liang Zhitian: I don't feel too much pressure. I tried my best. Relatively speaking, we are lucky. We are a group of designers who have left before, and we will continue to do better on a good basis, but this ideal is not for me personally or for my company. The motivation behind this is to create an international standard for designers in China and China. This is also my personal goal, and it is also the goal of my designers. We tell this goal to young designers now, and we will rely on them to pass it on in the future.
Shambhala: Domestic design is developing rapidly, but the foundation is very weak. When do you think there will be a designer comparable to you in China?
Liang Zhitian: Yes, there should be. China has many resources, including human resources. Now I see many young designers, including designers about my age. Some of them are doing well or have great potential. Some people say that most domestic designs are plagiarized. I think this statement may or may not be true. Hong Kong is different from China. There are a lot of pirates in Hong Kong, but China has a vast territory and abundant resources. You can see a lot of pirates. Actually, it's not. There are still many good things in China, including furniture design. If you go to the furniture exhibition center in Dongguan, there are many innovative things, but it takes time to perfect them. So China still has great potential!

Shambhala: What's the next arrangement?
Liang Zhitian: I graduated from the university on August1,set up my own company in 1987, and reorganized the company in 1997. I am 50 years old this year, so there will be a theme called10,20,50 next year. Next year, I plan to publish a book and hold a solo exhibition. Temporarily in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
Shambhala: What kind of exhibition is this?
Liang Zhitian: This is an exhibition of my personal works, including architecture, interior design, furniture and, if we can do it, products.
Shambhala: How will you design the exhibition hall of your travelling exhibition?
Liang Zhitian: I haven't thought about it yet, because the location hasn't been decided yet. But design is not the most important thing, what matters is the works I show. I think you must feel different when you walk into my exhibition hall. Some things are brilliant.
Shambhala: You mentioned before that you want to be a chef and open a restaurant. What is the design of your restaurant?
Liang Zhitian: I didn't expect it to be so soon. I may open a restaurant in Hong Kong by the end of this year, but this is only a preliminary idea. You see, I just can't keep a secret. Ha ha laugh ... I've been thinking about not saying, not saying)
Shambhala: When you communicate with the media, most people will say that your hobby is more about design, and rarely talk about your desire to be a chef!
Liang Zhitian: I mentioned it all. Now this interest is getting stronger and stronger. I plan to invest in a restaurant in the near future, starting with a small restaurant.
Shambhala: Is it because of frequent business trips that you didn't eat well?
Liang Zhitian: Yes ... Yes ... I think there should be a place of my own. Enjoy eating here or celebrate with my friends.
