What is the story of Yang Guifei grinding ink for Li Bai?
In 742 AD, Li Bai was drunk and invited by the Emperor of the Tang Dynasty to enter the palace to write poems for Yang Yuhuan. Because he was in rags, the Emperor of Tang gave Li Bai clothes. Li Bai told Gao Lishi to take off his boots because he was too drunk to change. Gao Lishi thought he was noble, but because Tang Huang was in the front, he responded. Later, he held a grudge, which led to Li Bai's demotion.
Unofficial history said that when Li Bai wrote Qing Ping Le, Yang Guifei was grinding ink and Gao Lishi was holding his boots. At the previous banquet, Meng Guifei also fed him soup with her own spoon. Later, everyone said that "educated people can't do anything" and found an allusion from then on.
The story of Gao Lishi taking off his boots for Li Bai from Youyang Miscellanies is actually a novelist's story made up by literati. The predecessors have long questioned this. As early as the Tang Dynasty, Li Zhao's Supplement to National History recorded: "Li Bai was in Hanlin and drank a lot. Xuanzong ordered people to have fun and talk, so drunk that he couldn't wait. He was moved by the water and became more active. With a stroke of his pen, he wrote more than a dozen chapters without adding the text. Later, he turned to the imperial court, led Gao Lishi to take off his boots and ordered Xiao Yan to expel him. " Li Bai often gets drunk in Hanlin. One day, Xuanzong asked Li Bai to write an article about Le Yan. Li Bai was drunk and wrote a dozen chapters with a stroke of a pen. Xuanzong was very happy and continued to invite Li Bai to drink. Li Bai put his foot in front of Gao Lishi and asked him to take off his boots, but the emperor ordered the eunuch to "expel him", and this did not happen. This is also found in New Tang Shu and Old Tang Shu. Wen Yuan Xia, a Book of the Old Tang Dynasty, specifically recorded the fact that Li Bai was scolded. In other words, Gao Lishi didn't take off his boots for Li Bai.
