Can minors stay in hotels by themselves?

Minors can stay in hotels by themselves. Minors only need to carry their ID cards and register. If the minor reaches the age of 16, he/she will go through the check-in formalities at the hotel or guesthouse with his/her real and legal ID card. If the minor is under the age of 16, he still needs to be accompanied by a guardian even if he carries a real and legal ID card.

What are the conditions for minors to stay in hotels?

Minors need to meet the following conditions when staying in a hotel:

1. Minors who have not applied for resident identity cards can apply for accommodation registration with their household registration books;

2. The temporary identification certificate shall be handled by the local police station of the hotel, and the hotel check-in formalities shall be handled;

3. Minors who have applied for resident ID cards can go through the hotel check-in formalities with their ID cards.

Legal basis: Article 56 of People's Republic of China (PRC) Public Security Administration Punishment Law.

If the hotel staff fails to register the names, types and numbers of identity documents of the guests, or fails to stop them knowing that dangerous goods are brought into the hotel, they shall be fined between 200 yuan and 500 yuan.

Hotel workers who know that the overnight guest is a criminal suspect or wanted by the public security organ and fail to report to the public security organ shall be fined between 200 yuan and 500 yuan; If the circumstances are serious, he shall be detained for not more than five days and may be fined not more than 500 yuan.
