Lin Xiyi’s life story

Lin Xiyi, the last Neo-Confucian in the late Southern Song Dynasty, was involved in Confucianism and quoted from Buddhism and Taoism. His annotation of "Lie Zi Jia Zhai Kou Yi" had a great influence in the East Asian cultural circle, especially in Japan. As far as is known, Lin Xiyi's "Lie Zi Jia Zhai Kou Yi" has nineteen authentic versions, including twelve domestic versions: three Yuan editions, eight Ming editions, one Qing edition; and seven Japanese editions. kind. Liu Kezhuang, a literary leader in the late Southern Song Dynasty, once wrote in a poem: "If we count the people who crossed the river, who else could be better besides Xi Weng?" He also said: "The great scholar Zhu Xi Gong." The Xi Weng here is , Zhuxi Gong, all refer to the last famous Neo-Confucian scholar in the late Song Dynasty: Lin Xiyi. Lin Xiyi was born in the fourth year of Shaoxi's reign (1193) in today's Fuqing City, Fujian Province. He was given the courtesy name Suweng, also called Yuanweng, and his nicknames were Zhuxi, Jizhai, and Xianji. In his later years, he was named Xigan. "Chunxi Sanshan Zhi" records his "Explanation of Examinations, Provincial Examinations and Fu Kui", and he was directly appointed by Hanlin Quanzhi and Chongzhengdian storyteller, and finally he was appointed to the Secret Pavilion and knew the Xinghua Army [3]. In the second year of Lizong Duanping's reign (1235), he became a Jinshi. In February of the sixth year of Chunyou's reign, "the imperial examination was recorded as the son of the state, and the orthographic characters were eliminated in that month." In November (1 2 4 6), he was eliminated as the school secretary. In May of the seventh year, he was also appointed as professor of Zhuang Wenfu. In July, he was eliminated as the editor of the Privy Council and the official of the Ministry of Power and Industry. In the first month of the fourth year of Jingding's reign, "Sinong Shaoqing was concurrently appointed as the official of the Ministry of Rites of the Zhishe Academy, the editor of the Academy of National History, the reviewer of the Record Academy, and the storyteller of Chongzheng Palace, in addition to the Secretary Shaojian, who was also the director of the Academy of National History. Editor, reviewer of the Record Academy, and storyteller of the Chongzheng Palace; except Taichang Shaoqing in April." "After that, he lived idle for seven years. From September to the spring of the fifth year of Xianchun (1269), the sixth year of Duzong's reign (1270), he was ordered to go to Beijing to take charge of the Han Dynasty and resign, but he refused, so he set off to die. His subsequent deeds are unknown, except that he was a member of the Shushe family at the end of his official life."

Lin Xiyi is the third generation descendant of the Ai Xuan School. He studied under Chen Zao and has superb Neo-Confucianism. He also made very outstanding contributions to the research of Laozi, Liezi and Zhuangzi, which is reflected in his "Laozi Li". In three works: "Zhai Kou Yi", "Liezi La Zhai Kou Yi" and "Zhuangzi La Zhai Kou Yi".
