Talk about how I design historical themed travel
Step one: Determine the theme:
For example, for a while I was very interested in the successive wars between the Northern Song Dynasty and Xixia, but I didn’t know much about the terrain of the Northern Song Dynasty and Xixia. Questions often arise in my mind. For example, is Fan Zhongyan’s strategy really effective? Where is the geographical location of Yinzhou? Why did Xixia pose a great threat to the Northern Song Dynasty in the early stage but gradually lost its strategic initiative in the later stage?
In order to answer these questions, I decided to take some time for a self-driving trip to inspect the terrain and locations of the war between the Northern Song Dynasty and the Western Xia Dynasty, so as to better understand the history books.
Everyone has many points of interest. Some come from books, some come from documentaries, and some are issues that have puzzled them for a long time. These can be used as travel themes. Just to give a few examples: the expansion in the Hexi region during the period of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, the dangerous pass in the Guanzhong area in ancient times, the Ningjin Defense Line in the Ming Dynasty, etc.
I saw a friend on Zhihu and asked: Why can the Great Wall effectively stop the ancient nomads from going south? Isn’t it just a wall? In fact, if you have been to the Great Wall and seen the actual gap, you will probably not ask such a question. Reading thousands of books and traveling thousands of miles is not nonsense. Traveling is the most effective supplement to the knowledge system gained from reading.
Step 2: Read relevant materials and determine the scope:
When I was planning the itinerary for the Northern Song Dynasty and Western Xia, the first thing I read was Gu Hongyi's Tianqing - Song and Xia from the Tenth to Eleventh Centuries Record of war. There is also a starting point historical novel: Song Dynasty. Then I read Lotus Every Step, which are all related to the history of this area. After obtaining the place names from these books, I began to look for the modern names of these place names from Teacher Tan Qixiang's Chinese historical atlas.
For example, in this example, I can know the names of Yinzhou, Linzhou, Fuzhou, Yanzhou, Luowucheng, Sanchuankou, Haoshuichuan and other places in the Song Dynasty before setting off. Corresponding to contemporary Hengshan County, Shenmu County, Fugu County, Yan'an City and other places in Yulin City.
The third step: further improve the design itinerary:
Then I know that the main places I want to visit on this trip are Hengshan County, Shenmu County and Fugu County in Yulin City, Shaanxi Province , Yan'an City. Around these places there are also the famous Wancheng ruins of the Huns' rule and attractions related to Li Zicheng in Suide Mizhi. Now that we are there, we can connect these places together and plan together.
Step 4: Book hotels, transportation, etc. needed for regular travel:
It goes without saying that the hotel depends on financial needs. In addition, you can also consider whether there are any special hotels with local characteristics. This mode of transportation is self-driving and no ticket booking is required. If you need to consider visas and other matters when going abroad, you should also consider them when traveling regularly.
Step 5: Prepare relevant materials and start reading:
You can start to prepare materials related to the initially selected topic and the places visited on the road, such as books, documentaries, etc. . You can usually first search the place name of the destination you want to go to and look for relevant important keywords. If you are from abroad or your English is good, Wikipedia is the most suitable. For example, Vienna, keywords that can easily be associated with it are: Holy Roman Empire, Habsburg Dynasty. For example, Yan'an, it is easy to think of Yan'an and Fan Zhongyan in the history of the Communist Party of China. For example, Tongwancheng is easily associated with Helian Bobo, the Huns, etc. Once you find it, start reading the most important relevant background information. People who don't have this knowledge go to many places and it seems like they go in vain, knowing nothing.
Step 6: Add fun to travel:
Look for delicious and fun things to eat at the destination.
Step 7: Enjoy the trip.
