First impression of Hong Kong trip (3) Hong Kong food
duangduangduang, the much-anticipated food chapter is here! Before arriving in Hong Kong, I had heard about the delicious food of Hong Kong’s traditional tea restaurants. The sweet and crunchy pineapple oil, the smooth and rich silk stocking milk tea, the refreshing and delicious Che Tsai noodles, and the value-for-money rice dishes... they are all It's my love, my love! ! ! However, due to limited time, I did not taste the above-mentioned delicacies during my first trip to Hong Kong. Instead, I tried other delicacies. To be honest, there are so many delicious foods in Hong Kong. Snacks include fin fins, egg waffles, curry fish eggs, and milk tea. Dinner options include beef brisket noodles, car noodles, plate-head rice, stewed soups, large pot dishes, and afternoon tea. There are pastries, cakes... Unfortunately, I only have one stomach and can only eat three meals a day, so the delicious food in Hong Kong is just the tip of the iceberg. Without further ado, here are the food pictures!
Breakfast - Sing Heung Yuen (Sheng Heung Yuen)
Address: No. 2 Mei Lun Street (Gough Street intersection), Central, Hong Kong Island
Business hours : 8:00-17:30
Signature delicacies: Tomato Beef Macaroni Series, Lemon Crisp, Frozen Lemon Seven
The location of Shengxiangyuan is diagonally opposite Jiuji Beef Brisket. The store is a bit simple, with open-air dining tables, no air conditioning, and only electric fans that are turned on at full power. However, the diners are so enthusiastic that they queue patiently to wait for the delicious food under the scorching sun.
The meal I ordered was tomato beef, pork chop and egg macaroni, lemon crunch, creamy gayan toast and frozen lemon cheese. First, let’s introduce the Tomato Beef, Pork Chop and Egg Macaroni
For those who love meat, this pasta is definitely worth a try. With a rich and fragrant tomato soup base, paired with tender beef (full of real beef), delicious pork chops, and eggs, the boring macaroni is no longer monotonous and becomes nutritious. After one bowl, you will definitely feel full. If you go to Hong Kong and want to eat this macaroni, it is recommended that you go early. If you arrive late and the tomato soup has been sold out, the delicious macaroni series will also be gone.
Another famous snack of Shengxiangyuan is lemon crunch. Lemon Crunch is actually a type of toast. The round meal bag is split in two in the middle, and the presentation looks a bit like a Mickey head. The crispy surface is coated with a layer of fragrant lemon jam. It is crispy, sweet and sour, and has a delicious taste. It is worth a try. The kaya cream toast looks a little ordinary under the light of lemon crunch, but the rich milk flavor is still very attractive to me who likes western toast.
I found that Hong Kong people like to drink Sprite. It is Sprite with lemon, euphemistically called Frozen Lemon Seven. Indeed, the taste of Sprite with lemon is indeed different. As for Shengxiangyuan's Frozen Lemon Seven, I taste not only the sourness of lemon but also a freshness similar to mint in my mouth. It's a sip in the hot summer. It’s so cool!
Lunch - Tang Xin Xuan (afternoon tea)
Address: 2/F, Ibis Hotel, 28 Des Voeux Road West, Sheung Wan
Afternoon tea time: 14 :00——16:30
Food worth trying: Dangan
Tang Xin Xuan is a relatively traditional hotel in Sheung Wan area, and it is also a place where locals in Central like to have tea on weekends. . Because we were so busy chatting at the dinner party with our relatives, we even forgot to take photos of the food. The refreshments at Tang Xin Xuan are generally good. Beef balls, shrimp dumplings, dry steamed rice, and XO sauce chee cheong fun are all delicious. The most special thing among pastries is the loose egg. Tangxinxuan's egg dumplings are very large, one egg powder is almost as big as a pastry plate, and the portion is generous, and the syrup is very delicious. It’s worth a try for those who like fried pastries when going for tea.
Dinner - Jiuji Beef Brisket
Business hours: Monday to Saturday 12:30-22:30, closed on Sundays and public holidays
Signature delicacies : Clear soup beef brisket noodles, curry beef brisket noodles
When I ate at Shengxiangyuan in the morning, Jiuji Beef Brisket was not open yet, but when I passed by, I found that at 11:30, there were already many diners who came here to queue up. And there are mostly foreign tourists. After our friends queued up hard in the evening, we finally had the beef noodles in clear soup that have long been famous on the Internet.
What I ate was this clear soup beef brisket noodles (thick noodles). Objectively speaking, the stewed beef brisket was crispy and soft, rich in flavor, and the soup base was salty, but the thick noodles were not delicious. Maybe it's a matter of personal taste. The taste of thick alkaline water is too strong, which makes me a little bit unable to swallow. So I didn’t finish the noodles in the end.
I heard that the pho in Jiu Kee is good, but unfortunately it was sold out when we went there.
Snack - Bear Cookies (Jenny Cookies)
Address: Hong Kong: Exit 15, Wing Wo Street (E2), Sheung Wan
Kowloon: Tsim Sha Tsui No. 54-64 Don Road, Room 24, G/F, Mirador Building (Exit D2)
I heard that Bear Cookies are a must-buy souvenir for girls going to Hong Kong. Its real name is Jenny Cookies. Because its packaging is printed with a cute teddy bear logo, it is known as bear biscuits. About the birth of Jenny Cookies, Jenny, an overseas Chinese who specializes in cookies, founded a bakery in Stanley, Hong Kong in 2005. The name of the store comes from her. Because Jenny loves to collect teddy bears in her spare time, she makes cookie jars with special bears printed on them. It has been more than ten years now, but the taste of Jenny's cookies is still loved by locals and mainland tourists. Xiong Zai Biscuit is famous for its handmade cookies and has various flavors of cookies. What I bought this time was a small box of four-in-one cookies (butter flower, coffee flower, crispy butter, raisin oats). I particularly like the flavor of the coffee flowers. The coffee has a strong aroma, crisp texture, sweet and bitter taste, and the taste is very special. But if you don’t like the bitter taste of coffee flowers, you can choose butter flowers, which taste sweet and are more popular. Finally, a friendly reminder that Alipay is not yet popular in Hong Kong, so most only accept cash transactions when eating. All the food shops mentioned above only accept cash, so friends who want to eat more Hong Kong food remember to always have Hong Kong dollars. Have cash with you.
