Warsaw TV tower collapsed

On August 8th 199 1 hour 16 (UTC), the whole tower collapsed due to the wrong replacement of the grid cable on the top floor of the tower. According to official sources, since the workers had left the area when it collapsed, fortunately there were no casualties in the accident. However, unconfirmed news revealed that the collapse caused three deaths and at least 12 people were injured. [2] But this is probably confused with1October 23rd 1997, another engineering accident that killed three people, and the collapse of the WLBT tower.

The statement that the cable was wrongly replaced was confirmed by Jan Polak, the main builder of the project. [3] When the tower is damaged, it first bends, then instantly breaks into two parts, the upper part falls straight, and the lower part falls. A small mobile crane of Mostostal Zabrze Company was damaged [4], but the transmitter room and other equipment rooms were not damaged in the collapse.

The accident investigation committee determined that Mosto bourzeix, the builder and maintainer of the tower, was responsible for the collapse of the broadcasting tower. The coordinator of the project construction and the department head of Mostostal Company were charged with crimes, and they were sentenced to two and a half years and three years' imprisonment respectively.
