On the Origin of Historians in Ningxia Zhongwei

Xinhuanet Ningxia Channel, August 29th (Reporter Jian Cao) The Collection of Inscriptions in Ningxia Past Dynasties was officially published a few days ago. Archaeologists in Ningxia believe that the epitaph of Shi surname in Guyuan city is the epitaph of the Sogdians in Central Asia, which provides evidence for the Sogdians to move eastward. The epitaphs of the historical surnames of the Sogdians in Central Asia unearthed in the tombs of the Sui and Tang Dynasties in the southern suburbs of Guyuan, Ningxia, were mainly unearthed from 1982 to 1995. Nine tombs were excavated in this tomb group, including Sui Dynasty tombs 1 block, and the rest were Tang Dynasty tombs. Among them, seven tombs have been unearthed with epitaphs, mainly including the epitaph of General You, a doctor of Sui Zhengyi, in A title of generals in ancient times, the epitaph of Shi Daoluo, a left relative of the Tang Dynasty, and the epitaph of the iron bar of the 17th governor of the Tang Dynasty. According to the research of the associate researcher of Guyuan Museum, Guyuan Historian Cemetery is the first Sogdian cemetery in the Tang Dynasty discovered in China. According to the epitaph, "Shi surname" moved eastward from Xiabozi area in Uzbek since Wei and Jin Dynasties, and settled in Yuanzhou. It is called the historical surname in China's history book "Nine Surnames of Zhaowu". The cemetery of the surname Shi provides material data for studying many historical problems of the family of the surname Shi who settled in Guyuan at that time and the Sogdians who moved eastward, and fills in the lack of relevant records of the living conditions of the Sogdians in Central Asia in Guyuan local chronicles. According to reports, the "Nine Surnames of Zhaowu" are mainly Sogdians living between the Amu Darya River and the Syr Darya River in Central Asia, including nine countries including Kang, Mi, He, Shi, Cao, Shi, An, Huo Xun and E. Their ancestor Kang Wang once lived in Zhaowu City in the north of Qilian Mountain and was later destroyed by Xiongnu. He crossed the Green Ridge and went to the two river basins in the west, where his descendants were flourishing. He took Zhaowu as his surname and named the Kingdom of Nine Kings to show that he did not forget his roots. The Sogdians are famous for being good at business. From the early Northern Dynasties, they traveled between Central Asia and China through the long Silk Road, manipulated international trade activities, and played an important role in the exchange and communication between Chinese and Western cultures.
