Comparison between the original work and the drama version of "Naoki Hansawa"
I have only watched the first season of the TV series and the original book 123, and am currently reading the third one.
Just a personal opinion: Regarding the Iseshima Hotel’s response to the Financial Services Agency’s review, after the duel with Owada, objectively speaking, Hanzawa did not completely win. The direct result was that Owada was demoted from managing director to general director (a small punitive demotion), while Hanzawa was transferred to Tokyo Chuo Securities as the head of the planning department (a demotion). Of course, the real winner was Nakano Watanabe. There is also an explanation in the play. The only thing that can be said to be Hanzawa's victory is Owada's kneeling. That kneel was when Banze completed his redemption for himself. His father's suicide and the collapse of the factory were all his original motives for joining the bank. From the moment he entered the bank, he actually disagreed with the behavior of bank employees like Owada: instead of helping companies in need, he drove them to a dead end for his own selfish purposes. But of course Banzawa has the ability, and he also has enough ambition. This was also mentioned in the first episode of the play when he was asked about his dream by Watari Mari. Therefore, even if there is no case reviewed by the Iseshima Hotel Finance Department, Hanzawa will be passively involved in such an incident unconsciously. Perhaps it was Nakano Watari who saw this and named Hanzawa as the main person in charge of this project.
In summary, at least in this incident, it was a victory for Banze himself, because revenge has been perfectly achieved. But Banze's situation in the bank was undoubtedly a failure. Being transferred from outside meant that he was getting further and further away from the center of the bank. Even his domineering personality was not recognized by more directors, and he lost many opportunities for promotion.
A digression about Nakano Wataru: I don’t believe that Nakano Wataru has no understanding of the situation of Owada and his wife. The reason why a president can be a president must be without countless sources of intelligence. Even Hanzawa was able to find out Owada's personal savings and liabilities, and it was impossible for Nakano Watari not to know about it. He just wants to borrow Banzawa's hand to either completely "kill" Owada or take it for his own use. "Killing" is impossible, and the play also clearly names this (unfortunately, it is not mentioned in the book). The operation of the entire bank needs balance and stability. If one Owada is "killed", there will be more Owada, in a sense, also made a wedding dress for Owada's enemies. Only taking it for one's own use is the best way to stabilize the situation.
The reason why Hanzawa was not given a promotion reward in the book was because of the stability of the old T (Tokyo Daiichi Bank) and the old S (Industrial Central Bank) factions. Corresponding punishment was given. However, changes were made in the play. Owada and Hanzawa were both from the same faction. Owada even admired Hanzawa at the beginning. There was no clear and direct explanation for this at the end of the first season.
From my personal perspective after seeing the end of the first season and the original work, I think the fundamental reason is that Nakano Wataru does not want the bank to be full of people like Banzawa. In other words, for the sake of the bank's superficial prosperity and stability, no matter how chaotic it is underneath, as long as it is not exposed, he, as chairman, can continue to work safely forever. If Banze's behavior is encouraged and more and more darkness comes to the surface, then it is not impossible that the bank's image as a gathering place for professional elites, which has been built with hard work for generations, will collapse across the board, and it will be spurned by all walks of life. In fact, the clues to this point are not obvious in the play, but in the book, readers are constantly reminded of the existence of this disharmony inside and outside the bank. This is where Jun Ikeido is great, and I think the book is better than the drama from this level.
Of course, these are just my personal thoughts at the moment. I will come back and revise the answer after reading all the original books and movies and TV series!
Update after reading the third book and drama:
I have to say that the drama is indeed a good adaptation in some aspects, the plot is more compact, and the four books can be told in two seasons. It’s over, it’s really a great workplace drama. But from a character perspective, the book still describes it more three-dimensionally and realistically. For example, Isayama appeared in the third season. In the book, he is actually a hard-working person with strong abilities. His acquisition of the Computer Acrobatics Group was just about the fame and fortune brought by this successful acquisition in the industry. His motives are not wrong (although the methods are a bit unsightly). ), and finally lost to Banze just because of a lack of ability. At that time, he did not carefully review the computer's accounts and did not discover the false accounts. In the beginning, he didn't actually have much hatred for Banze. At most, he just heard that this person was difficult to deal with, and he was very disgusted with Banze's behavior as a subsidiary company against the parent company. Later, he became so angry that Banze disrupted his plans again and again. The board of directors, who made additional investments in the end, were dealt a fatal blow.
In order to draw out Owada, the drama may have changed all of Isayama's motives, added the master-disciple relationship between him and Owada, the identity of a double agent, and then created a character who only cares about his own interests and ignores the bank and customers. The villain. Although the plot is better, I think Isayama in the book is more real. Even the villain is not completely bad and has no advantages.
As analyzed earlier, Banze came to the Central Bank of Tokyo to avenge his father and embarked on the path of a bank clerk. However, after the revenge was completed, Banze lost his long-term support in his heart, so where should he go? "Counterattack of the Lost Generation" does not use a lot of pen and ink to explain Banze's changes. Instead, it uses Moriyama's mouth to directly output the most important values ????of the book: what a working person does is the right thing.
The following is the original text, and it is also the part that touches me the most:
It’s very simple. It means ‘seeking truth from facts’. If something is correct, we must say it is correct, which means that we must unify the common sense of society and the common sense of the organization, and that's it. People who work wholeheartedly and sincerely should be evaluated accordingly, but today's organizations cannot do such a simple thing. So this won't work. "
"Then what do you think the reason is? " Moriyama asked.
"Some people work just for themselves. Banze answered clearly, "Work should exist for customers." By extension, it means working for society. When people forget this big principle, they will blindly pursue self-interest. Work that is purely self-serving is introverted and inferior, and will become ugly and distorted due to selfishness. Once there are more people like this, the company will naturally become more and more corrupt. When an organization decays, society will also decay. Do you understand? ”
Banze’s faith did not disappear because of the previous successful revenge. Instead, it became more and more firm and was correctly passed on to the next generation of bankers who were also lost. Although Banze did not appear much, It can be felt that he is no longer the angry young banker in the previous books who always "repays tooth for tooth". Therefore, the character has been changing and gradually sublimating to make Banze more charming, and his values ????are also exported to him. Every reader. Of course, after the drama was revised to cater to the public’s needs, I criticized it loudly at every turn.
I know that the fifth part has been released. Ready to watch...
