Chuxiong Torch Festival was held in Tuohei Reservoir Scenic Area, Shaochong Town, Shiping County. The time is: August 6, 2023 at 7:30 am.

Torch Festival originated from Qixi Festival, which is also called "Lunar New Year" by Yi people. The origin of Torch Festival is closely related to the October solar calendar of Yi people, which is determined by the observation of astronomical phenomena by Yi ancestors and the direction of Beidou bucket handle. Torch Festival is a symbol of Yi culture, an annual festival and the most important and grand festival in Yi tradition.

Every year from June 24th to 27th of the lunar calendar, Yi villages hold grand sacrificial activities, offering sacrifices to heaven and earth, fire, ancestors and evil spirits, and praying for the prosperity of six livestock, abundant crops and safe homes, which embodies the good wishes of the Yi people to respect the laws of nature and pursue a happy life. During the festival, there will be grand cultural and sports activities such as duet, jumping, wrestling and autumn grinding, which are very rich in content.
