Creating a hotel logo
Here we take hotel signage as an example to talk about some views on signage design.
Hotel signs include lobby signs (such as cashiers), floor signs, door numbers, function signs, clock signs, notice boards, room rate signs, foreign currency exchange signs, etc.
Cooking pays attention to color, aroma, taste and shape, and hotel signage also pays attention to "shape, color, quality and taste".
“Shape” is the first priority when designing hotel signage. The "shape" should be in harmony with the entire architectural style and decorative taste of the hotel. "Shape" refers to the shape, appearance, and basic form of the sign, such as square, oval, arch, wavy, cone, fan, mixed, etc. It should be integrated with the hotel's decorative point, line, and surface style. It is required to be coordinated and pleasing to the eye, or simple and bright, or complex, or Western European style, or Chinese style, all starting from "shape". The combination of square and circle, ever-changing, with various floral decorations, pendants, and hanging chains, is also like the composition of a painting; the matching of dots and lines, priorities, pitch and response, overall balance, seeking movement and change in balance; also like dishes, each Foods of various shapes and colors are placed on the plate, and the changes highlight the beauty of form.
"Color" refers to color, tone, overall tone and color matching at each level to achieve harmony and unity. When we first look at any sign, we immediately know whether it is a cool or warm color. All series of signs are like the melody in music and must set a tone. If the hotel wall is regarded as the overall background, this tone becomes a foreground color in the hotel environment. What most star-rated hotels pursue is the coordination between the color of their signage and the environment. The walls of the hotel should be mainly white, neutral beige, and light yellow. The signage should also be mainly warm colors, but avoid bright red and green. The colors should be mostly neutral colors, mainly secondary colors, with a little primary color embellished, and the number of colors should not exceed Three colors. For example, we designed the Jinhou Hotel signage, because this hotel is European-style, with warm colors and mainly gold. The lobby has a European-style golden relief on the entire wall, and the lintels and frames of each elevator door are also golden relief. Abstract oil paintings are hung on the corridors and walls. In the design, the color tone of the signage is set to warm colors, mainly gold and black, with the hotel's LOGO standard color maroon. The entire color system is coherent and integrated, serving the European style tone of the entire hotel. We use black marble three-dimensional carving, gold paint and copper strips to decorate the floor signs, while other signs are engraved with golden sand-faced two-color plates and paired with an acrylic base, which is crystal clear and exudes the aura of the king.
"Quality" refers to material, which is the basic carrier for expressing various elements in signage production. Either single or multiple materials, all serve the shape and color. The materials that can be used include: imitation marble, mahogany, beech, imitation wood, copper plate, aluminum plate, stainless steel, titanium, acrylic, plastic, glass, Chevron board, etc. .
When it comes to materials, we must talk about material processing, that is, the production process. Silk screen printing, sand blasting, engraving, electroplating, etching, etc., the processes are all similar, but the level is uneven. The quality grade of the sign is closely related to the process.
In hotel signage design, "quality" is governed by "shape" and "color", but the comprehensive look and feel of the material combination and whether it is coordinated with the environment must be considered. In terms of processing technology for imitation marble, mahogany, acrylic and other plates, most of the text is mainly three-dimensional carving, and then gold-roasted, silver-coated or painted with other colors. For example, when we designed and produced the house number plate of a certain mountain villa, we took into consideration the theme of returning to nature that she needed. This villa has a forest garden layout, with rockeries, pavilions, arches, bridges and flowing water. All visible cement piers are painted with wood grain colors, and the wall skirts are also solid wood. Therefore, the house number plate adopts a multi-faceted arc shape with a mahogany base and a gold-plated surface. It is etched and baked with black paint, and the overall effect is particularly good.
Most metal plates are etched and dotted with paint. For example, the lobby sign of Lushan Hotel is a steel plate that is planed, etched, dotted with black paint, and then equipped with a dark marble base.
"Taste" means taste. When the "shape", "color" and "quality" are well matched, the "taste" will come out. The taste is related to the hotel as a whole, and also complements the feeling placed in the overall decoration style. In short, whether the "face" is sufficient or not, whether the taste is high or not, can be judged from the "shape" of the details, the "color" of the senses, and the inner "quality".
Signage development trends
Since humans have had signs, they range from wooden arrows to triangular flags, from simple hand-drawn symbols and totems to today’s exquisite Chinese and English (computer font) logos. From stone polishing and clay excavation to carving images, to today's computer design and computer-automated processing, the scale, efficiency and quality have been greatly improved.
The development of signage is inseparable from the increasing upgrading of equipment and the continuous improvement of scientific and technological level. Lettering machines, engraving machines, printing machines, inkjet printers, screen printing machines, etching machines, etc. are continuously developed and applied in the signage industry. With continuous technological innovation, both the sophistication and production speed of signage production have been greatly improved.
The development of signage is the product of social needs. Reform and opening up, rapid economic development, construction and tourism industries are booming, living environment, working environment, entertainment and leisure environment have been particularly improved. Each industry pays special attention to its own publicity and image promotion, and has done enough "face". All this has brought signage of vigorous development.
