On egoism and altruism

There are two things that made me feel very much some time ago, and I want to write about self-interest and altruism.

The first thing is related to my parents. My mother has been in poor health and renal insufficiency for ten years. Go to the local hospital regularly to check your physical condition and prescribe some drugs that you take regularly. Recently, in a video with my parents, my mother told me angrily that the hospital doctor had prescribed a lot of drugs that she could not take without my mother's consent. While telling her story, my mother listed all kinds of improper behaviors in hospitals exposed by TV and media recently, and greatly praised the government for doing a good job and doing it right. But when I asked my mother, why didn't you report the doctor who prescribed drugs indiscriminately? My mother was somewhat embarrassed. I tried to persuade my mother that reporting was good for other patients who went to see the doctor, so I wouldn't dare to ask for it in the future. However, my mother said with a look of sadness that she had known this doctor for many years and had taken care of her mother in the past. Why should she report ta and affect its future? Big deal, the drugs prescribed by ta should be carefully read before payment.

I am deeply touched by my mother's reaction to the incident. There are many people who think like my mother in China. No matter what happens, they always want to make peace, so it is good to pay attention to it in the future. Few people will stand up and do something beneficial to others.

Only altruism will ultimately be self-interested. If everyone only thinks about self-interest and ignores others, it will eventually become egoless and constrained everywhere.

The second thing happened on our trip to Yunnan. After arriving in Xishuangbanna, it was nearly noon, and we found wanda plaza, where we wanted to have some lunch before staying at the hotel. As it happens, there is a KFC in wanda plaza, and there are quite a lot of people. We found a long table in the middle to sit with other guests. From time to time, the voice of reprimanding the child loudly floated into my ear, and I turned my head to see a woman of 6+ scolding a child under 1 years old loudly, no one's watching. Hey, look at me. I really sympathize with the child. I hope his young heart can withstand such a public reprimand. In the short dining event, the voice of the elders reprimanding the juniors has been flying in my ears. After eating hastily, we went to the parking lot to prepare to drive away.

when we drove to the exit and were ready to queue up to pay the bill, we saw a car parked in front of us. At first, it seemed that the driver was arguing with the management at the exit. Soon, I saw the driver get off the bus and leave. However, there is only one exit, and a dozen meters behind us are stuck there. Fifteen minutes later, I was a little impatient, got off the bus to find out the situation, and found that the woman who had reprimanded the child at KFC was also talking to the administrator at the exit. Through their conversation, I learned that the driver got off the bus and went to the mall to exchange free parking tickets. However, they didn't consider the feelings of the people behind them, and they blocked the exit for 25 minutes. When I communicated with my woman and hoped that she could drive away from the exit first and give way to the car behind her, she repeatedly stressed that they were spending money in the mall. Why not go out for free and change free parking tickets at the mall? I'm dizzy! Silent!

In public, you should try to pay attention to reduce the troubles or inconveniences that your actions may cause to others. The simple truth that it is convenient for others and convenient for oneself seems to be invalid here.

These two things make me deeply feel that China today is a world leader in infrastructure and hardware investment. However, our software of thought, consciousness and quality is still far from developed countries, and there is still a long way to go to revitalize the Chinese nation.

self-interest leads to life, while altruism lasts for a long time

For example, in a cake shop, subjectively, the boss earns profits, but objectively, it satisfies the appetite of customers. There are many similar examples. It can be said that "self-interest, altruistic trip" is a basic rule for the operation of commercial society.

Why do people have altruistic behavior of sacrificing themselves to save others? Generally, the answer based on common sense and experience is that it is an instinctive and thoughtless conscience behavior. However, where does the instinctive altruism inspired by human conscience come from? American psychologist ElliottSober and philosopher DavidS Wilson? Wilson) co-authored Unto Others: the evolution and psychology of selfless behavior is to provide an answer to this question from the perspective of human evolution.

they put forward a pluralistic altruistic motivation theory, that is, the motivation of human behavior is not either self-interest or altruism, but can include self-interest and altruism. People have altruistic behavior, which does not mean that they are not self-interested, but that people are not absolutely self-interested.

Absolute egoism is a very strong point of view, which holds that all human behaviors are driven by selfish motives, even seemingly altruistic behaviors (such as donating blood for free) are aimed at satisfying people's desire to end self-interest (I donate blood for strangers, and only strangers will donate blood for me when I need it). In the view of absolute egoism, sacrificing oneself to save others is out of empathy for others. Empathy is actually self-interest, and concern for others is actually a kind of self-concern. Because of empathy, from ruin's behavior will make people feel uneasy, so saving people is actually for their own conscience.

Sobel and Wilson questioned such absolute egoism from the perspective of evolution. They put forward that egoism and altruism evolved at different levels, and people's behavioral motives worked at different levels, forming multiple motives. Altruism is a genetic feature that is naturally selected in the competition between groups. In different groups, the characteristics of altruism do not exist in different degrees, and due to the influence of environment and culture, there will be greater differences. If many individuals in a group have more altruism, they will have more self-preservation and continuation ability and stronger competitiveness than those with less altruism. It's just that the self-interested group is like a fragmented sand, while Dolly's group is more centripetal and cohesive. At the critical moment, the result of the competition between these two groups is self-evident. Therefore, it can be said that the beneficiary of self-sacrifice is not only the direct individual object of altruistic behavior, but also the whole group. The whole is strong because of altruism, perhaps this is the significance of altruism in natural selection.
