Known as "mysterious back river and natural oxygen bar", "National Nature Reserve" is located in the south-central part of Wufeng Tujia Autonomous County, which belongs to the eastern mountainous area of Wuling Mountain at the junction of Hubei Province and Hunan Province, with an area of 40,964.9 hectares, including core area1365,438+008.6 hectares, buffer area of 8,603.2 hectares and experimental area of 65,438+. It belongs to the forest ecosystem type nature reserve. In April 2000, it was approved as a national nature reserve by the State Council.

The main protection objects of Houhe National Nature Reserve are subtropical forest ecosystem and rare and endangered wild animal and plant species, including Davidia involucrata, leopard, black muntjac and other internationally endangered animals and plants and their habitats. The nature reserve is adjacent to Hupingshan National Nature Reserve in Hunan Province in the south, Wufeng Town in the northeast and Wantan Town in the west, with the longest from north to south 10.4km and the widest from east to west 18km.

Tianmenxia Scenic Spot is the core scenic spot of Houhe Nature Reserve, with a planned area of 12.9 square kilometers. Named after the natural beauty of Tianmen Gorge at the entrance. Together with Baixihe Wetland Park and Ling Du Outdoor Experience Zone, it forms a panoramic view of Houhe eco-tourism. There are 33 scenic spots in the scenic spot, including Baibupo, Yuan Xian Bridge, Baodaoling and Santiaoquan.

Tianmenxia Scenic Area was established with the approval of the former Yichang Administrative Office in March 1985, upgraded to a provincial nature reserve with the approval of the provincial government in June/988, upgraded to a national nature reserve with the approval of the State Council in April, 2000, and was rated as a national AAAA scenic spot in October14. It is located in the geographical circle of 30 north latitude with Hupingshan Nature Reserve in Hunan and Shennongjia National Nature Reserve.

The strata in Houhe National Nature Reserve are all sedimentary rocks, among which carbonate rocks are widely distributed and well exposed, belonging to Jiangnan stratigraphic area. Geological structure is characterized by folds and obvious faults. The peaks in the area are undulating and mountainous, and all the mountains belong to the tail of the northern branch of Wuling Mountain in Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. The terrain gradually inclines from west to east. There are more than 20 peaks above1500m, and the highest peak in Ling Du is 2252m above sea level.

By the end of 20 14, there were 226 species, 907 genera and 2279 species 156 varieties of vascular plants in Houhe National Nature Reserve, including bryophytes, 33 families, 90 genera 192 species and 3 varieties. The national first-class protected plants are Davidia involucrata, Davidia involucrata, Ginkgo biloba, Taxus mairei and so on. There are 0/8 species of national second-class protected plants, such as Acer truncatum, Primula Lingchun, Castanopsis fargesii and Toona sinensis.

The "rare tree species community" located in Yangjiapo is one of the most important protected objects in Houhe National Nature Reserve. The community is composed of more than 20 kinds of national protected plants, which is known as "unique in China and rare in the world". Davidia involucrata is a deciduous tree, which can grow to 20 to 25 meters high. Its leaves are broadly oval with huge teeth at the edge. There are only two kinds of undergraduate plants, one with hairy leaves and the other with smooth hair and beautiful flowers. It is a plant left over from Cenozoic Tertiary 6.5438 million years ago. During the Quaternary Glacier Period, Davidia involucrata died out in most areas, only in China. Davidia involucrata has lush foliage, leaves as big as mulberry, and flowers spread their wings like homing pigeons, so it is commonly known as "dove flower". Its big white bracts are like the wings of a pigeon, its dark red head is like a pigeon's head, and its green and yellow column is like a pigeon's beak. Houhe is fortunate to preserve the most primitive Davidia involucrata community in the world, which is as high as 1 1500 forest. Around May Day, ten thousand dove flowers spread their wings, providing a rare exotic landscape for Houhe Scenic Area.

This is a happy home for wild animals. By 20 14, there were 307 species of vertebrates in Houhe Scenic Area, belonging to 4 classes, 25 orders and 74 families, including 5 species of national protected animals and 20 species of new recorded animals in Hubei. There are 87 species of mammals in the nature reserve, which are listed as 17 species under national key protection, among which 5 species are under national first-class protection: South China tiger, leopard, clouded leopard, Hei Hu, forest deer and forest musk deer. National second-class protected black bear 13 species.

There are 33 species of birds 125 in nature reserve, among which "golden eagle" 1 species is the first-class protection; There are 32 species such as "white-crowned long-tailed pheasant" under secondary protection.

There are 24 species of amphibians in the scenic spot, belonging to 2 orders and 8 families. There are 1 species of giant salamander under state key protection; There are 38 species of reptiles, belonging to 2 orders and 9 families. In particular, the flat-scale blunt-headed snake is only found in a few areas of China.

This is a summer and cool paradise. Houhe National Nature Reserve is located on the edge of Hunan and Hubei, and the river belongs to Lishui River system in the Yangtze River basin. Baixi River is the main river in this area, which runs through the whole nature reserve from west to east. The source of Baixi River is located at Tianshengqiao in Houhe Nature Reserve, from west to east to north. Huixinben River, Huishaxi River and Yangjia River flow through Houhe Village and Shuitan Village, and Leidashi from Baixihe Village flows into Lishui, Hunan Province. The source to the beach is Houhe River, and the following is Baixi River, which is collectively called Baixi River.

Magnificence is a major feature of Tianmenxia Scenic Area. In Tianmen Gorge, a "one-line sky" landform is formed in many places, with the widest part less than 20m and the narrowest part less than10m. Yuan Xian Bridge, one of the Five Immortals Bridges in Houhe River, is located in Huishaxi Grand Canyon in Baodaoling Tourist Area of Tianmenxia Scenic Area.
