What is the history of Dengfeng Shaolin Temple?

Located in the west of Dengfeng City 12km at the foot of Wuru Peak in Songshan Mountain, it is one of the main core scenic spots in Songshan Scenic Area.

It was built by Emperor Xiaowen to settle the Indian monk Barto. Built in the dense forest of Songshan Mountain, it was named "Shaolin Temple". In the third year of Xiaochang in the Northern Wei Dynasty (AD 527), Dharma, an Indian monk, came to Shaolin and lived in a natural cave in Wurufeng, Shaoshi Mountain for nine years, where he first preached Zen. At this point, Shaolin is called "the ancestral home of Zen". In the early Tang Dynasty, thirteen stick monks such as Zhijian and Tanzong of Shaolin Temple made great contributions in the battle against the king and were praised by the rulers. During this period, due to the strong support of the court, Shaolin Temple developed rapidly and won the reputation of "the first temple in the world", and Shaolin Kung Fu became famous from then on. The Ming Dynasty reached its peak. During the Republic of China, Shi Yousan, a warlord, released most of the buildings in blazing temple, and the Millennium foundation was destroyed. After the founding of New China, with the care and support of the Party and the country, Shaolin Temple was revived, especially 1982' s film Shaolin Temple, which made Shaolin Temple and Shaolin Kungfu popular all over the world.

There is a big tunnel between the entrance of Shaolin Temple and Tianwang Hall, with paths on both sides, which is the place where temple inscriptions are concentrated. Because the monument stands like a forest, it is called "forest of steles". These are all famous original inscriptions since the Tang and Song Dynasties.

To the east of "Forest of Steles" is the former site of Ciyun Hall, which is now the tablet gallery of Shaolin Temple. It not only records the rise and fall of temples, but also has high research value in history, sculpture, art and so on. There are a total of inscriptions 108 in Shaolin Temple's stele forest and stele gallery.

The murals on the stone tablet have a unique style. The survival of Shaolin Temple for more than 1500 years is mainly due to the social propaganda effect of the constant gathering of celebrities in past dynasties. As the saying goes, famous mountains and waters are even more famous. At present, there are more than 400 stone carvings in Shaolin Temple, including the handwriting of celebrities in the past dynasties since the Tang Dynasty, which can be described as "original works, cursive scripts and official seals", as well as various forms of poems, words, inscriptions and postscript. Many famous monuments of Shaolin Temple were originally stored here, such as the Tang Dynasty < Lingyun Zen Master Gongde Tower Inscription > and so on. From 1984 to 1992, these important inscriptions were moved to the newly-built stele gallery for preservation. There are still 35 inscriptions in the forest of tablets. Among them, the Ming monument 10, the Qing monument 1 1, the modern monument 13, and the age is unknown 1. Famous ones are the Ming Dynasty and so on. , the Qing dynasty and so on, modern and so on.
