Historical evolution
Origin of the district name: Linzi was originally named Yingqiu, because it was adjacent to the Zi River in the east. In 859 BC, it was renamed Linzi by Qi Xiangong.
The Zhou Dynasty was the capital of Qi State, the Han Dynasty was the capital of Qi King, it was the administrative seat of Qingzhou during the Three Kingdoms period, it was the residence of a large county in the Sui and Tang Dynasties, and it was later a county. Sunlou Township: Formerly Sunlou People’s Commune. In 1983, the district government conducted a pilot project to establish townships, and established Sunlou and Yongliu townships respectively. Sunlou Township is located in the middle of the district and is slightly oblique rectangular in shape. It borders Yongliu Township to the east, Xindian Town to the southeast, Dawu Township to the south, Lushan Township to the west, and Wutai Township to the north. Area is 24.9 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over 22 natural villages and 23 village committees. By the end of 1985, there were 4,937 households with 20,877 people. The township government is located 1 kilometer east of Sunloudian Village and 3.5 kilometers away from Xindian.
Yongliu Township: Formerly Sunlou People’s Commune. In 1983, the district government conducted a pilot project to establish townships, and established Yongliu and Sunlou townships respectively. Yongliu Township is located in the middle of the district and is shaped like a triangle. It is connected to Qiling Town in the east, Sunlou Township in the west, Xindian Town in the south, and Qidu Town in the north. Area is 16.85 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over 14 natural villages and 15 village committees. By the end of 1985, there were 2,742 households with 11,975 people. The township government is located in Yongliuzhuang, 3 kilometers away from Xindian.
Dawu Township: Formerly Dawu People’s Commune. In April 1984, it was restructured into Dawu Township. The township is located in the west and south of the district, bordering Jinling Hui Town and Sunlou Township in the north. The southern half is divided into east and west parts by Jinling Hui Town. Area is 29.15 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over 16 natural villages, 11 village committees, and two neighborhood committees. By the end of 1985, there were 4,600 households with 18,211 people. The township government is located in the north of Dawu Village, 5 kilometers away from Xindian.
Jinling Hui Town: formerly Jinling People’s Commune. In April 1984, it was restructured into Jinling Town. Because it was an area inhabited by the Hui people, it was renamed Jinling Hui Town in May of the same year. The town is located in the west of the district and is shaped like a "T". It borders Dawu Township to the east, Wangzhai Township to the south, Dawu Township and Zhangdian District to the west, and Lushan Township to the north. Area is 18.7 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over 4 natural villages, 5 village committees, and 1 residents committee. By the end of 1985, there were 4,464 households with 15,893 people. The town government is located in Jinling Town Village, 9 kilometers away from Xindian.
Wangzhai Township: Formerly Wangzhai People’s Commune. In April 1984, it was restructured into Wangzhai Township. The township is located in the southwest of the district and is slightly rectangular in shape. It borders Nanqiu Town to the east, Bianhe Township to the south, Zhangdian District to the west, Dawu Township and Jinling Hui Town to the north. Area is 26.95 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over 10 natural villages and 12 village committees. By the end of 1985, there were 3,746 households with 17,898 people. The township government is located in Wangjiazhai Village, 11 kilometers away from Xindian.
Bianhe Township: Formerly Bianhe People's Commune. In April 1984, it was restructured into Bianhe Township. The township is located at the southern end of the district and is slightly triangular in shape. It borders Yidu County to the east, Zichuan District to the south and west, and Nanqiu Town, Wangzhai Township and Zhangdian District to the north. Area is 68.75 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over 31 natural villages and 30 village committees. By the end of 1985, there were 7,589 households with 30,379 people. The township government is stationed in Bianhe Village, 15 kilometers away from Xindian.
Nanqiu Town: formerly known as Nanqiu People's Commune. In April 1984, it was renamed Nanqiu Town. The town is located in the south-east of the district. Shape is slightly square. It is adjacent to Yidu County across the Zihe River in the east and southeast, Bianhe Township in the south, Wangzhai Township in the west, and Dawu Township and Xindian Town in the north. Area is 21.5 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over 3 natural villages, 5 village committees, and 1 residents committee. By the end of 1985, there were 12,658 households with 52,086 people. The town government is located in Nanqiu Village, 8 kilometers away from Xindian.
Linzi County (District) Residency Changes
Original Linzi County: located in the middle of the district, southeast of the Qi State Old City site, west of Xin (Dian) Gu (Island) Highway, including There are three administrative villages: Dongmen, Southmen and Ximen. Area is 1.5 square kilometers (including Xiguan). Linzi County was built by Daru Huachi and Li Zhongming in the late Yuan Dynasty. From the end of the Yuan Dynasty to September 1958, it was the county seat for more than 400 years. From October 1958 to the end of 1961, it was the headquarters of the commune. In 1962, it became the county seat. In January 1970, the county system was changed to a district system and it became the district administration office. In October 1974, the district government moved to Xindian. The county seat is also the seat of the commune and is now the seat of the Qidu Town Government.
After the Xindian District Government moved Xindian, Xindian took over the position of Linzi County and became the political, economic, cultural and transportation center of the region. Xindian City is located at the west foot of Niushan Mountain and is shaped like a "human". It covers 7 towns including Xindian, Dawu, Nanqiu, Wangzhai, Jinling, Sunlou and Yongliu. In April 2021, Linzi District was rated as the second batch of national "green prevention and control demonstration counties" for crop diseases and pests.
In January 2021, Shandong Province Agriculture and Rural Affairs recognized Linzi District as the 2020 Shandong Province “Two Good Things and Two Highs” agricultural mechanization demonstration county (city, district).
In November 2020, the Ministry of Water Resources announced the third batch of counties (districts) that have met the standards for water-saving society construction, and Linzi District was on the list.
In November 2020, the list of "2020 China's Top 100 Demonstration Counties and Cities for Rural Revitalization" was released, with Linzi District ranking 74th.
In June 2020, Linzi District was included in the second batch of districts and counties for the protection and utilization of revolutionary cultural relics (Shandong area).
In January 2020, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs identified Linzi District as the fourth batch of demonstration counties (cities, districts) in the country that have taken the lead in basically realizing the full mechanization of major crop production.
In October 2019, Linzi District was selected as one of the top 100 districts in terms of comprehensive strength in the country in 2019, ranking 53rd.
In September 2018, CCID Consulting released the ranking of China’s top 100 districts in 2018, with Linzi District ranking 73rd.
