Memory of Mazuyan's Travels in Ganzhou (2)

I will never forget the beauty and culture of Ganzhou. Seeing the ancient poems written at that time, I can't help sighing. A song "Living in a Qiancheng" wrote about my young and depressed guest life at that time. Although I still have to take great pains, I wrote another article at that time:

Peak clouds block the mountainside, and Leiying Qingshan.

Flour flies and wings dance, and the wind blows the stamens.

Vicissitudes make lotus leaves fly.

It rains and wet clothes, and the ancient temple shows cornices.

Qingsheng haunts the Buddha's name and sits looking at Mazu Rock.

Wuling is looking for a place to return, and this place is like Taoyuan.

-Looking for Mazu Rock in case of rain, the culvert of the river

Mazuyan mentioned in the poem is also one of the eight scenic spots in Ganzhou. I have to say that the monk Mazu has also made this land more magical. "Travel Notes of Hehan" wrote: There is a mountain near the north of Jiangxi, such as a bell cover and a huge stone lying flat, which is quite beautiful in Cui Wei. Its trees are lush and winding, and there is a temple on it. From a distance, it looks like something from kuya. There are clouds and transpiration, and the sky meets the earth. The ancients said that the mountain is not high and the fairy is not famous. Although the mountain is as big as sumeru, it is difficult to reach the five mountains with beautiful ridges, but this mountain has the potential of my Lord here. Is it strange to have gods? Ask the farmer what this mountain is called and say, Mazuyan! Clap the top and shout: no wonder, a pony broke the world and killed all living beings! What is a mountain? Just a stone!

Speaking of Mazu Taoism, anyone who talks about Zen knows that it was a monk in the Tang Dynasty and the founder of Hongzhou Sect. Huineng, the sixth ancestor, is the second disciple. Huineng has two outstanding disciples, Qingyuan Hangsi and Nanyue Huairang, both of whom have a proud pupil. Gao Tu, a master thinker, is a stone that wants to move, and the door of Master Huai Rang is Mazu Yi Dao. According to legend, the sixth ancestor said to Huai Rang that in the future, a pony will be born at your door to kill. This indicates that Mazu will become a Zen master in the future. Mazu Yi Dao, a native of Sichuan, had Buddha nature when he was young. Later, I followed Master Huai Jean to practice Zen. In Nanyue, Mazu practiced Zen wholeheartedly. Huai let the master see that Mazu is a musical instrument, so he gave him advice, so he grinds bricks there every day. Mazu was surprised and asked, What's the use of Master grinding bricks?

Huai Rang said: Make a mirror by grinding bricks!

Mazu is even weirder. Then he asked, how to make a mirror by grinding bricks?

Huai rang asked him, Why do you meditate all day?

Mazu replied without thinking: Become a Buddha!

Huai rang said: grinding bricks can't make a mirror, can meditation become a Buddha?

Mazu was at a loss at that time.

Huai rang explained: if you drive an ox cart and it doesn't move, will you hit an ox or take a taxi?

This sentence awakened the dreamer, and Mazu realized the true meaning of Buddhism at this time, and his research on Buddhism was deeper.

Later, Mazu returned to his hometown to talk about Zen and failed. When Mazu was vulgar, my father made a dustpan. After Mazu returned to China. Neighbors all heard that a monk had returned from his hometown. I came to see it, and when I saw that it was the son of a horse, I dispersed in a hubbub. However, Mazu enlightened one person, and that was his sister-in-law. Sister-in-law Mazu believed in Buddhism wholeheartedly and asked Mazu how to practice. Mazu said: tie an egg with a rope and listen to it every day until the egg makes a sound, and you will get the word. The eldest sister-in-law was quite convinced, so she hung an egg with a rope and listened attentively every day. She didn't hear a sound for several years, but she persisted until one day the rotten egg fell to the ground with a bang, and the eldest sister-in-law suddenly realized!

We don't need to investigate what Zen is in this case. It can be seen from this incident that Mazu has really realized that he can guide the eldest sister-in-law in the countryside. Why should he worry that he can't develop Buddhism? Sure enough, Mazu later went to Jiangxi, opened an altar to give lectures, and made great achievements in Hongzhou, and promoted Nanchan with stones and money in Hunan. What the world says about traveling in rivers and lakes is a trip to Jiangxi and Hunan. It can be said that Mazu created the jungle, which means that many people who practice Zen hide in the mountains. There are 84 disciples under Mazu, and there are countless celebrities. These disciples have made great contributions to Hongzhou School, especially to Luoyang School and Lin Ji School, which Huang Boli hoped to bring down. The famous Huaihai, Yan Zhi and Puyuan are all a generation of eminent monks.
