What should I do if the mattress is wet?

Laundry liquid: the magic cleaner for urine stains

Washing powder is your best friend when removing the urine smell on the mattress. Once you have soaked all the fresh urine on the mattress, or the stain is too old to absorb urine, you can add a few teaspoons of laundry detergent to a cup of warm water, then pour it in (or spray your empty spray bottle on the affected area. Or, if you can tolerate the smell, you can also use a solution of warm water and vinegar.

Put your magic potion on the urine stain.

Once you mix your magic cleaning solution and apply it to the mattress where the urine is located, repeat the imprinting process discussed earlier. Careful imprinting is very important because it can remove any residual urine and prevent mildew. Make sure that the urine area of the mattress is as dry as possible after using the cleaning liquid.

Use baking soda to remove moisture and urine smell.

After removing all residual moisture in urine, sprinkle baking soda on the whole mattress. This will help prevent the smell of urine from penetrating into any other part of the mattress. It takes time for the mattress to be completely dry (18-24 hours), so you must make other sleeping arrangements at night. After this period of time, vacuum all the baking soda, and then support the mattress outdoors or in a well-ventilated place to let the air circulate and shield the last smell on the mattress.

If you still smell urine on the mattress after following all the above steps, you may need to contact a professional cleaning service to find out the damage. If your mattress is over eight years old, you should consider whether to replace it.
