Lake Wanaka and Lake Havia, Kadrona Valley-gold rush history, rushing through, Robroy Glacier Trail, Lake Wanaka Crousaz River, Tieshan.

From Calderona Valley to Crown Mountains.

Follow the 25-kilometer-long scenic walking path through the Cardrona Valley to reach the historic gold mining area. There is a very spectacular Calderon Hotel (built at 1868). Now it's a restaurant. The descendants of the former gold diggers still live in the valley and make a living by animal husbandry. Now, Calderona Valley is a good place for horseback riding, mountain climbing and skiing. Calderon Alpine Resort is famous for its dry snow, wide slopes and steep slopes. Waiolao Drifting Snow Ranch also has a Nordic slide field in winter, which is an ideal place to enjoy the winter landscape.

Calderona Valley meets the highway on Crown Hill, with an altitude of 1 12 1 m. This is the main highway with the highest elevation in the country. This road is the fastest way to Queenstown, and the scenery along the way is very charming. You can see the Vasco Var?o River meandering into the distance.

Apisin Mountain National Park

Youzhishan National Park is not far from Wanaka. Here are some of the most beautiful walkways in New Zealand. Drive from Wanaka to Matukituki, all the way to the park. There, you will see a panoramic view of majestic peaks and glaciers. On the way, on the left is the Sanzuishan Ski Resort. Further up, the wetlands on both sides of the road are the habitats of wading birds in New Zealand.

The highest point of the park is Aspalin Mountain, which is 3027 meters above sea level. It stands gracefully on one side of the glacier and is a favorite of climbers and photographers. Even if you are not an expert in mountain climbing, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the park (there are dozens of world-class tour guides, any of which can take you to the top of the mountain). Countless paths meander through the open valley of the park. You can also fly to overlook the golden valleys and forest-covered ridges.

The Lobroy Glacier in the park originated from the 2606-meter-high Lobroy Peak. After walking for about two and a half hours, you will see the elegant Robroy Glacier.

Tieshan and Roy mountains

Tieshan (because it looks like an iron) is a local geographical symbol and stands abruptly on the gentle slope near Lake Wanaka. Tieshan is a relic of past glaciation. Now it is a good place to climb mountains, overlooking the surrounding valleys, peaks, rivers and lakes. The circular sightseeing walkway runs through the grass and Maluka bushes. Then, it leads to the flat top of the mountain. Finally, it suddenly fell to a steep place to the south of the iron. In addition, there are horse riding sightseeing projects to choose from in this area.

Mount Roy is only a few minutes' drive from Wanaka, but it is more than 1000 meters higher than Wanaka. This is a good place for hiking all day. A winding path leads to the dense golden grassland and directly to the top of the mountain with pleasant air. On the top of the mountain, you can overlook the islands and estuaries of Lake Wanaka, and you can also see the aspiring mountain in the distance.

The source of a 340-kilometer river

The vast Krusa River originates from Lake Wanaka. The river is wide and fast. The Krusa River is the longest river in the South Island. It was thoroughly excavated during the gold rush. Fly fishing, boating, kayaking and jet boats are all good ways to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Crousaz.

Pass through the mountain pass

Although the road at Hastings Pass is only 160 km long, it will take nearly 30 years to dig through hard rocks to pave this road. This road passes through Lake Wanaka and Lake Havia, through grassy hills, and reaches the main watershed of southern alps. Finally, it reaches the rainforests, waterfalls and rivers on the west coast. The scenery on the east and west sides of the mountain pass is very different.

This road was first used by Maori when they were looking for green jade. But it was named after the first European who came here to climb the mountain. After the Maori indicated the starting point, Julius Van Hastert and his team spent four weeks completing the journey.

Legend of the two lakes

Wanaka and Havia are the two most beautiful lakes in New Zealand. The two lakes were formed by glacier movement and separated by a narrow isthmus. Lake Wanaka is more than 300 meters deep, and Lake Havia is even deeper. The water in these two lakes is exceptionally blue, and most of it comes from melting snow and glaciers.

The mountains around the lake are more than 2000 meters high, and winter is a world of ice and snow. Every autumn, deciduous trees by the lake are a great sight here.

Like other inland lakes in the South Island, Hawiya Lake and Wanaka Lake were manually excavated under the leadership of Chief Tilakahaotu. He dug up the riverbed of the inland lake with his powerful digging stick, and the excavated sediment and stones formed hills.

History of the Gold Rush in Caderousse Valley

During the gold rush in Otago, the Calderona Valley was very eye-catching. Today, the only golden color comes from the shining yellow grass on both sides of the Cardrona highway from Wanaka to Queenstown. To the west of the valley is the Kadrona Ski Resort. This is a world-class holiday park. The roads in AD are open for tourists to ride mountain bikes in summer. To the east is Waiolaoche Ranch, the only Nordic ski resort in New Zealand. Among them, the topography of Pisa Plateau fluctuates greatly. You can also ride across the valley.
