A 1,000-word essay praising Linjiang
We only stayed in Changbai County for four days. On July 27, a group of five of us took a long-distance bus to Linjiang, the next stop of our Northeast trip. This trip is relatively tight, so we can’t stay in one place for too long.
Linjiang is located next to the Yalu River and located in the southeast of Jilin Province. Although it is not as clean as Changbai County, it is still a beautiful city surrounded by mountains and rivers. Grandpa spent his junior high school life here. We first came to Linjiang No. 1 Middle School—my grandfather’s alma mater when he was in junior high school. I felt close again and felt the feelings of an old man towards his alma mater. This feeling is very special. When I am far away from it, I feel a long and sincere longing for it. When I approach it, I feel some attachment and a little sad. I can't express it clearly. ...
We stayed in Linjiang for two days and stayed at the Yalu River Hotel on the bank of the beautiful Yalu River. The next morning, we walked along the Yalu River and watched. From time to time, my grandfather told us about his school days more than 50 years ago. Linjiang is on the lower reaches of the Yalu River. There is a famous Yalu River Bridge on the river. My grandfather said that it was from this bridge that the Chinese People's Volunteers went to North Korea to participate in the war to resist U.S. aggression and aid Korea. We took a speedboat and came under the famous Yalu River Bridge. I feel very proud because there are three bridges on the Yalu River, one in Changbai, one in Linjiang, and one in Dandong. I have been to all three bridges. Although I did not go there in the same year (the one in Dandong was in 2005), I am very proud. Just like the sentence in the 2009 Spring Festival Gala: I am proud!
The city government in Linjiang is also very beautiful. The three words "Linjiang City" are written in large letters on the top of the tall building. The golden light shines brightly under the sun. The glass windows facing the street are also shining brightly, which makes people marvel. Under the words "Linjiang City" is the national emblem of China, and the five-star red flag is flying high in the square in front of the building.
Grandpa’s classmates warmly entertained us. They have been separated for 55 years since they graduated from junior high school. Watching them excitedly chat about their previous study life, life experience after graduation, and their current life after retirement. everything. I suddenly understood the helplessness and sadness of the saying "Time is not forgiving". Grandpa and his classmates are all gray-haired. I couldn't help but get scared. I thought: Will I be like this in the future? Can't we live a carefree childhood like now?
This wish may just be a fantasy. We will only grow up and will not go back to the past. We always have to go through some twists and turns that we don’t want to experience. Maybe, this is life.
