Shuangshan Island is located in the northwest suburb of Zhangjiagang City, between the Zhangjiagang operation channel and the Yangtze River trunk line. The total area of the island is about 16 square kilometers, with a length of 3,700 meters from east to west and 5,500 meters from north to south. Shuangshan Island was formed by the accumulation of sandbars in the middle of the river 80 years ago. This island has a large area and is a quiet oasis on the other side of the Yangtze River. The present situation is mainly farmland and small farms, and the whole terrain is relatively flat. Since the dam was built around the island, it has formed a landform with high outside and low inside. The dam can resist the highest water level in history without danger, and has a topographic height difference of 5 meters from the island. Every spring, flowers are in full bloom, pink and green. Birds and flowers are fragrant, like a colorful picture scroll. There are poems praising: asparagus is born, swordfish is fat, swans fly in the red chamber, thousands of lights reflect the river red, and people sing the beauty of spring. 1993 Shuangshan Town Government has built steel passenger terminals on both sides of Shuang Shan to Zhangjiagang Port, and purchased new passenger ships and speedboats for tourists to ferry to the island and visit around the island. 195 invested 900,000 yuan to build a 14-meter-high gatehouse at the ferry, with three floors, of which the second floor is a sightseeing pavilion. Visitors standing on the second floor can enjoy the scenery on the island, the rolling Yangtze River, and the prosperity of the construction of ports and bonded areas on the other side. There is a 50-acre park on the east side of the gatehouse, which is long and narrow, mainly lakes, and is called the fishing center. There are three pavilions in the park, one of which is a double pavilion; Stone arch bridges and zigzag bridges are erected on the lake, and trees such as osmanthus and red maple are planted on the lake. The red leaves are brilliant and the fragrance is overflowing, which makes people feel relaxed and happy. In August of that year, expressway around the island was completed and opened to traffic. 1in April, 1997, Shuang Shan River Bank 16.8km green belt was built, and trees such as Metasequoia glyptostroboides, Cinnamomum camphora and Ligustrum lucidum were planted16,000. On June 5438+ 10, 2002, the first phase project of Shuang Shan Golf Course in Shuangshan Island Tourist Resort was completed, covering an area of 9 1.73 hectares (1376 mu), of which the lawn area was 70,000 square meters.
