Because I read Yan's words, the culinary world at that time thought that the hinge originated in the Southern and Northern Dynasties, because such wonton was really a standard jiaozi. In Ming Dynasty, there was a special name for hinges, but Wanli Ye always mentioned that there were Toona sinensis dumplings in Beijing, which might be the stuffing made of Toona sinensis buds.
What is particularly interesting is that "Wildfire Debate" quoted some interesting antitheses circulating in Beijing. The original sentence is "thin skin crisp wonton, Toona sinensis dumplings are steamed dumplings and peach blossoms". In the sentence, wonton, jiaozi and steamed dumplings are clearly distinguished. There are obvious differences between jiaozi and wonton in Wu Ming's The Carving of Ding in Qing Dynasty, so they are no longer confused.
But until today, jiaozi is still called wonton in some places. Although there are obvious differences in shape and eating method between jiaozi and Wonton, their names are ambiguous in some places, which is related to the lack of clear distinction in history, and their origins can definitely be traced back to the era of Yan Zhitui.
