Towards a dream

Page is a magical town near the Colorado River, with a small urban structure, but a huge Wal-Mart shopping plaza, which makes people doubt its strong consumption power (similar to the idea of building a wanda plaza on the top of Huangshan Mountain). The town has the world-famous horseshoe bend and antelope canyon, as well as Lake Powell, the second largest artificial lake in the United States (the first artificial lake is Lake Mead formed by Hoover Dam intercepting the Colorado River).

Although Page has so many world-class scenery, we only went to horseshoe bend, which is called "the battlefield of the brave", because of the mistakes in itinerary and reservation. Turn regret into a reason to come back next time, and leave a dream for the future trip to the American West RV.

Our hotel in Page is next to Glen Canyon Dam, which is second only to Hoover Dam. The dam is higher than Ugland Canyon and intercepts the Colorado River at Lake Powell. Early in the morning, I was tired and dragged the SLR to the edge of the canyon. The tourists didn't arrive, and the sun was crooked. The shadows in the canyon are heavy and the scenery is not clear.

Although it is morning, the bright and unobstructed sunshine is in full swing, which almost indicates this bbq-style day. After shooting Glen Canyon, I went back to the hotel. Ma Xuan, Kiki and Toto were all having breakfast. The buffet waffles in this hotel are delicious. Less than 9 o'clock after leaving the hotel, we followed the navigation and headed for horseshoe bend.

It is very close from our hotel to horseshoe bend, only less than 8 kilometers away, and it takes almost 5 minutes to reach the parking lot of horseshoe bend. The scenic spots in horseshoe bend are very kind. Such a world-class scenic spot is actually free. Only the parking lot at the gate charges 10 USD for one car. The above picture was found on the Internet. When we arrived, the sun tilted too much, resulting in a large light ratio (photographic terminology, referring to the light reception ratio between the dark side and the bright side of the subject in the lighting environment). The tolerance of SLR can't be compared with that of human eyes, so the difference between the photos taken and what the eyes saw is quite big. The above picture was taken when the sun illuminates the whole horseshoe bend, which basically represents what our eyes see. The picture below is the photo I took, and you can see that some details are missing in the shadow.

There is still a long walking distance from the parking lot to horseshoe bend. There is a sign at the entrance to remind everyone to bring a bottle of water before entering. Xuan's mother brought a bottle of water, but the distance was not too far from the map, plus a SLR with a few kilograms of long guns and short guns, so she didn't pay attention to this notice. As a result, I almost died of thirst on the way back.

Horseshoe bend deserves to be the battlefield of the brave. Every rock in this place has the feeling of rolling in the deep. Yesterday, we dared to explore crazily on the edge of the canyon. Today, we only dare to explore carefully at the edge of horseshoe bend. I don't even have the courage to sit on some protruding stones and move out, so I can only crawl on the ground.

According to the report, it was an Indian couple who fell last time. It seems that several people fall down every year. At the bottom of the horseshoe-shaped boulder, we can see a house the size of a grain of rice. We joked that it was for tourists to collect bodies. In this place, three dolls are the bravest, namely Jessica Hester Hsuan, Qiqi and Duoduo. They have no sense of crisis and are not afraid of the battlefield of the brave. They chased and fought on the steep rocks at the edge of the cliff, but they frightened their old mother and father, and quickly grabbed them with one hand and dragged them away from the edge of the cliff.

The exposed rocks in horseshoe bend are exposed to the sun, and the temperature rises stiffly. After a few minutes, I felt very dry. As soon as the sweat squeezed out of my body, it evaporated directly from the surface of my skin, leaving a layer of salt frost on my clothes. The unbearable thirst forced us to withdraw from the car quickly.

Out of the horseshoe bend, I went to Antelope Canyon. On the way, we passed three buildings covered with lights that we saw the night before. They used to be chimneys of a coal-fired power plant, but at night we thought they were five-star luxury hotels. About a month ago, a friend who was visiting the United States reminded me that we should book tickets for Antelope Canyon as soon as possible. At that time, when I booked tickets online, I found that the tickets were completely unavailable during the popular time around noon 12. I checked the raiders online and said I could try my luck at the scene. The distance between antelope canyon and horseshoe bend is very close, about 10 km. It takes less than 20 minutes to drive to the parking lot in front of the canyon. Antelope Canyon is divided into upper and lower canyons. We first tried our luck in the accessible Upper Antelope Canyon, and sure enough, there were no tickets, so we immediately tried our luck in the Antelope Canyon. We are still naive and believe the story of luck. Antelope Canyon has become a pity for our trip, and it will be left for our next trip to America. However, when we pass by the roadside, we can see the Upper and Lower Antelope Canyon from a distance. There seems to be a narrow crack in the ground, and it is unimaginable that people can still get into this canyon for sightseeing. Make up for the regret in the last photo I found online.

Since we can't go to Antelope Canyon, we have a lot of free time to visit the Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona, which is one of the most spectacular canyons on the Colorado River. We started from Page, replenished food at the Wal-Mart here, and then went to the Grand Canyon. Along the way, there are Gobi and various sparse drought-tolerant plants, and the scenery is boring and monotonous. The distance from the Grand Canyon is getting closer and closer, the altitude is rising again, the temperature is much cooler, the vegetation is gradually dense, and the air can feel less dry than before. Driving along a cliff, the toll station of Grand Canyon National Park is here.

The telephoto lens I carry with me is useful here. Look at the beautiful scenery of the Grand Canyon compressed at the telephoto end below.

After training in Three Cliffs, Canyon Land, Dead Horse Point and Horseshoe Bend, the Grand Canyon can no longer scare us, and the acrophobia heals itself in constant fear. We keep pressing the shutter here, just to leave a good memory.

The sun sets in the west and comes again in the evening. It is difficult for us to travel these days, so we went to Tusayan, which is next to the Colorado Grand Canyon, and checked into the hotel in advance.

From arches national park to Canyon, from Canyon to Monument Valley, from Monument Valley to Horseshoe Bend, and finally to the Grand Canyon. No amount of flowery words can describe these magnificent natural landscapes. In the Chronicle of the Earth, the landscape transformation here is definitely ignored, and the wild world of ancient prehistoric times is directly presented to every visitor.

At this point, we have all passed through the vast and magnificent canyon world in the western United States, and what remains in our dreams will be unspeakable grandeur, but I hope that in our lifetime, we can walk at the bottom of these canyons and have a look at the scratches from hundreds of millions of years ago, so that the remains of God can remain in our eternal dreams.
