The area is located at the northern end of Luliang Mountain System, with the main peak of Luya Mountain at an altitude of 2736 meters. The mountains in this area are peculiar and steep, and the ecological environment is complex. There are large areas of deciduous forests and spruce forests in North China, which is one of the best preserved forest ecosystems in the Loess Plateau. The flora here is complex, including Mongolian elements, northeast elements and Palaearctic elements, and contains endemic species in North China. There are more than 700 points of higher plants belonging to 93 families and 370 genera, and 232 species of vertebrates have been found, among which 6 species are listed as national first-class protected wild animals, such as brown pheasant, Hei He, golden eagle and leopard, and 22 species are listed as second-class protected wild animals, such as musk deer, lynx, ancient mink, red deer, goshawk and falcon. In particular, the world's endangered and rare animal brown eared pheasant is widely distributed in nature reserves, with a population of about 2700, which is the northernmost limit of the distribution of brown eared pheasant. The establishment of Luyashan Nature Reserve is of great significance to the protection and research of brown eared pheasant.
