Historical stories, myths and legends, text explanations and other information of Miwan, the ancient city of Dali?

The origin of "rice pill"

Legend has it that after Houyi shot the sun, they married Chang 'e, and they traveled around, just looking for a place they liked and staying together. Unconsciously, several spring and autumn have passed. That winter, on a cloudless sunny day in Wan Li, Hou Yi and Chang 'e went to a place with beautiful mountains and rivers, snow-covered and white clothes. What's more strange is that the mountains are surrounded by a lake like flawless jade. This place is Cangshan Erhai Lake. Yes, Dali-the fairyland that Houyi Chang 'e has been looking for.

One morning, Hou Yi's Chang 'e climbed Cangshan Mountain and took a nap halfway up the Jade Bureau Peak when she suddenly saw an arrow flying towards a rabbit. Hou Yi pulled out an arrow to stop the arrow from shooting at the rabbit and saved it. The archer turned out to be a young hunter He lives in Cangshan, and he is very personable. In fact, he also had the appearance of Hou Yi, but at this moment he was frightened by Hou Yi's powerful "fast arrow". The young hunter fell in love with Princess Afeng of Nanzhao. Princess Afeng always likes to eat rabbit meat. In order to please her sweetheart, she hunted here for a long time. Young people sighed when they learned that the man in front of them was actually a household name, so they immediately worshipped Hou Yi as a teacher and learned hunting skills. He is the hero of later Dali folk story Wang Fuyun-Cangshan Hunter.

Hou Yi lived in a garden in Erhai Lake, Cangshan, and cultivated Chang 'e Weaver Maid. They lived the life of a fairy couple. Until the Mid-Autumn Festival one year, Chang 'e was recalled to heaven by the Queen Mother and was not allowed to meet Hou Yi. Because Chang 'e is always worried about Hou Yi, she doesn't think about tea and rice. Finally, she flew to the nearest moon with the rabbit saved by Hou Yi and became a fairy. Hou Yi was also heartbroken, looking up at the night sky and calling the name of Chang 'e. At this time, he was surprised to find that the moon in the Mid-Autumn Festival was particularly bright, and there was a swaying figure resembling Chang 'e. After that, Hou Yi went to Cangshan Peak to watch every night, as firm as a rock, until his death.

After Hou Yi's death, the legendary Cangshan hunter, in order to repay his master Hou Yi, called on the Bai villagers in Dali to set up a table incense in the back garden where Chang 'e lived on the Mid-Autumn Festival every year, and put on Chang 'e's favorite honey and fresh fruit to sacrifice Chang 'e in the moon palace. From then on, there was the story of the moon. Miwan, located between Cangshan Lake and Erhai Lake, is the garden where Houyi Chang 'e lived. This garden is mysterious and romantic, full of tenderness. In order to remember the story of Chang 'e in Houyi, the Bai people in Dali quoted "Miwan" in Bai language, meaning "Moon" from now on. This is the origin of "rice pill".
