Folk stories of Lingfeng Temple in Beilun

Ge Hong was a Taoist theorist in the Eastern Jin Dynasty. He is proficient in alchemy and has a deep study of medical ethics. Wherever he went, he used alchemy to collect medicines and practice medicine to treat diseases. He also visited famous doctors, collected folk prescriptions, collated them, and wrote many medical books, such as Bao Puzi and Elbow Backup Emergency Prescription, which made certain contributions to medicine and chemistry. It is said that he traveled all over Nanjing, Hangzhou and Putuo to avoid the disaster of war. According to legend, the alchemy in Lingfeng coincided with the epidemic of endemic diseases, and many people were dying. Seeing this situation, Ge Hong went up the mountain to collect herbs, mashed them into pills and treated them with acupuncture, which saved many people and eliminated the epidemic situation in this area. So later, in order to appreciate Ge Hong's kindness, people built a temple statue in Lingfeng Temple, where he was an alchemist. As the saying goes, "there is Ge Xianweng above, and there is Niangniang Palace below". Be honored as "Ge Xianweng". Every year, the tenth day of the fourth lunar month is the day people look forward to, and it is also Ge Xianweng's birthday. During the big incense period (from the first day to the tenth day of the fourth lunar month), pilgrims come to Mount Mi, and the grand occasion can be described as "incense and fog intertwined, red candle and sun, moon and Guang Qi". Even more pious people, who worship the mountain in three steps, do not hesitate to kneel down and break their heads to compete for "butterfly knot" (also known as "Diego" and "butterfly in the wind", and good men and women regard it as "the charm of Ge Xian"). It is said that getting this "knot dad" can ensure peace, so in the old society, most of the people who came here to ask for this "knot dad" were fishermen from Zhoushan Islands. They have been living at sea for many years, struggling in the wind and waves, and they are extremely insecure. In desperation, they had to come here and ask the effective God to bless them.

The income from selling Buddhist temples is considerable. According to records, in 1930s and 1940s, this incense was used for the education funds of the famous Lingshan Academy in Beilun. While our ancestors prayed for "Ge Xianweng", they did not forget the well-educated Ge Mu. Legend: Ge Mu taught her son to be naive, honest and sincere; It is necessary to treat diseases for the people and to eliminate pests for the people; Stay away from debauchery and wealth, practice meditation ... Ge Hong keeps his word and puts it into action. After Ge Hong became immortal, he became a golden dragon and flew into the East China Sea. Because she misses her son, Ge Mu often climbs the hill, looks out and shouts loudly. Later, people named this hill "Wangyanggang" (nicknamed "Maoyanggang") and built "Maoyanggang" on it. For thousands of years, most pilgrims who worship Buddha and knock on immortals in Lingfeng Mountain have crossed the mountains to worship the "Virgin" (commonly known as "Maoniang") in Maoyang Temple. 1998, another unique temple of Lingfeng Temple was completed, namely "Notre Dame Hall". Since then, Lingfeng has added a holy place for Buddhist believers.
