Air conditioning equipment will not be widely used in Britain until summer heat waves become more frequent and last longer. But climate change is pushing the world in this direction-a recent study shows that Europe is a hot spot of heat waves, and extreme temperatures are rising three to four times faster than those in similar latitudes, partly because of the change of rapids-the airflow is five to seven miles above the earth's surface.
