Korla belongs to Bayinguoleng Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture in Xinjiang. Korla is a county-level city (quasi-prefecture-level city) and the capital of Bayinguoleng Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture in Xinjiang, which was established on September 30th, 1979. Korla is located in the heart of Eurasia and Xinjiang, on the northeast edge of Tarim Basin, bordering Kuruk Mountain and Hora Mountain in the north and Taklimakan Desert, the world's second largest desert in the "Sea of Death" in the south, with a straight line distance of only 70 kilometers.
