How can I volunteer to travel?

How to find a reliable volunteer/job-hopping opportunity was once the most tangled thing before I went abroad, and I met many friends who asked me, so I wanted to write my own experience and hope to give you some help. I'm Marukoli. After graduation, I traveled to more than 30 countries on five continents. Experienced volunteer travel, work and residence change at home and abroad, including the experience of couch surfing. This paper mainly shares the story of volunteers and working for accommodation.

1.

First of all, we should distinguish between volunteer travel and working to change residence.

Volunteer: Generally engaged in public welfare activities, with the purpose of helping others repay the society, do something without pursuing personal interests (or realizing self-worth). This method is not only free, but also involves paying. (Poverty Alleviation/Teaching/Nature Protection/Archaeology)

Now simple travel can no longer meet the needs of the public. Many people want to make friends to make this trip meaningful. I suggest you choose volunteer travel. Everything will be arranged by the organization (pick-up, accommodation, schedule, and issuance of international volunteer certificates ...), and there will be a large part of the broadcast time and a short period. Generally, starting from one week, the cost will be similar to that of tour groups (different structures charge different fees)

Work for accommodation: that is, work for accommodation, and exchange your skills or labor for free accommodation. Generally, there are very clear requirements for skills or working hours. Things you may need to do (farm, hotel, homestay): check in/check out/receive guests/clean the room/buy ingredients/cook or wash dishes.

For those who are poor/short of funds or just want to broaden their horizons temporarily, it is suggested to travel by working. This method usually starts from the shortest three weeks, with specific work and duration, usually 4-8 hours a day, one week 1-2 days holiday, free of charge. The store will guarantee your room and board, and some will even reimburse the transportation and insurance expenses with the commission.

Whether you are doing volunteer travel or changing local jobs, you are required to have good psychological quality, independence and hard work. Friends who pay too much attention to food and shelter and have princess disease will certainly be unable to stand it.

2.

Domestic volunteers/changes in work and accommodation:

At present, most youth teams are recruiting volunteers. You can get information on WeChat official account, such as Douban Group, Grains Line, Easin, Youth Travel Volunteers, etc. It's convenient, so I won't say much.

But there is a problem: you will find that the chances of being selected in the official WeChat account are very small and the procedures are very complicated. However, is the threshold for youth travel volunteers that high? Not really!

Its purpose is more to let you promote its brand, but it doesn't matter whether you can get a volunteer opportunity. So I recommend: register directly with the inn information: email, micro-signal, Weibo, telephone, etc. Instead of registering through the platform, it doesn't mean that you can't register through the platform, but this way is more efficient!

At onehouse in Chiang Mai, I went abroad to work for the first time, changed places, and fell in love with the city of Chiang Mai.

3.

Work abroad for accommodation/volunteers:

Weibo/Douban: At present, many China people go abroad to open youth hostels. You can find information from Weibo. I remember there were many volunteers in Thailand when I was looking for them.

Facebook: At that time, I saw that Taiwan Province Province had many opportunities to work and change places on Facebook, and other countries should also have them.

In addition, the website helpx is recommended, which has opportunities to work, change accommodation and volunteer from all over the world. The host will introduce in detail the work to be done in his place, the length of time, the number of people needed, etc. You can contact him directly by email. Except the membership fee for registering the website (Taobao 130 RMB), there is no charge (some families or institutions will charge a small amount of room and board, which is 9 Niu Yi cents compared with domestic institutions).

I know that there are many foreign volunteer organizations in China, and some projects are also on helpx, and the fee charged by helpx is one twentieth.

Some famous international volunteer organizations:

Workaway: Just like helpx, you can get the contact information of the project leader by paying the registration fee.

IVHQ international volunteers: mainly in developing countries, providing education, protecting turtles, teaching monks and so on.

Helpx: At the same time, news about changing jobs, accommodation and volunteering is released, mostly to help local families. Working hours and contents can be negotiated.

Greenway Greenway China: Providing high-quality volunteer projects at home and abroad.

WWOOF: Mainly helping on the farm.

4.

Simple and rude type:

The other way is that I will use it, but for everyone's safety, I don't recommend it. For places that I am particularly interested in, I will call or email the store directly, and even go to the local store to ask if I am willing to recruit volunteers and tell it my specialty. (I feel like a black worker = =)

5.

Registration method:

Generally, the boss will ask you to send your resume and photos to the email. You can explain your major, the purpose of changing jobs and accommodation, the time you can go to the post, and what kind of experience you hope to get. Friends with special skills can attach your works. E-mail must be sincere, don't talk big just because you want this opportunity. Then wait for a reply, that's all! There are not too many complicated procedures, and you don't need to pay attention to the official WeChat account, forward, comment and like.

Why do I choose volunteer/part-time travel?

Because of poverty, I haven't tried QWQ volunteer travel, and many friends around me have participated, but I have worked as a travel experience officer in Yunnan, and have worked in Chiang Mai, Semporna and Sri Lanka. When I said I was going to volunteer abroad, someone told me, "There are so many mountainous areas in China that need help. What kind of love do you give abroad?" I want to say: I have no such lofty ideal. Of course, I hope to help more people when I have the ability in the future, but now, I choose to travel by working for accommodation.

First, in order to save travel expenses, I have the funds to go to more places. You know, the cost after the host stays is actually very small. For example, I only spent 2,000 yuan a month in Sri Lanka and 3,000 yuan in Chiang Mai for two months (of course, I also had some extra income).

Two: Personally, I like to be a local volunteer. Traveling is a very tiring thing. I am tired of running around for a long time. I have always believed that if you want to really understand a place, you must make friends with the locals and live like them.

7.

Key points: these are very important!

1. Don't think that volunteers don't have to spend money!

2. Before you go, you should know the situation clearly, such as "Is my room a single room, a dormitory or a mixed room, is there hot water?" "Working hours and rest time of the day", "Work to be done" and so on. Avoid being exploited by "dirty" bosses as cheap labor, causing unnecessary misunderstandings.

3. If volunteers travel, it is more secure to find a reputable organization.

Please think about the purpose of your visit before you go out. After all, too many people get lost in the journey under the guise of finding their true selves.

6.

What I got from working and changing my residence:

1 greatly improved his life skills, at least a little cooking and housework.

2. Generally, I work in a youth brigade and change places. There you will meet all kinds of guests and unexpected situations, and good communication skills are essential. At the same time, you will meet friends from all over the world and oral English teachers from all over the world, not to mention practicing English.

Learn to be alone, you will often experience a person in a completely strange place during the journey, and it is very rare to overcome inner loneliness and fear.

You travel to a place just to feel the local customs, which may be the best choice.

Finally, I really want to thank every big family I have been to, such as one house in Chiang Mai, Travel Notes in Lijiang, wanderers inn Wanderers in Semporna, and the folly of Kandy Helga. I am very lucky. Every house I have been to, no matter the boss or the staff, is super good. I also know that I have too many shortcomings. Thank you for your tolerance.

PS: language problems:

You can stay abroad and play a little English. It's still difficult to volunteer or work and change places. English is so important now, it is better to sign up for an English class before coming out to see the world.

The above is my experience of working and changing accommodation, and my personal strength is very weak. If you think this article is helpful to you,

Please forward it to more friends in need.

Thanks for your support.
