Car rental
(1) Car model selection
There are seven car models for car rental, namely: small car, compact car, medium and large car, luxury sedan, SUV, MPV, pickup truck. Which car type to choose depends on the actual situation, such as the number of travelers, the amount of luggage, the road conditions, personal preferences, etc.
(2) Car rental on the official website and car booking process
Open the official car rental website, enter the pick-up location and time, and click search. Many car rental companies will appear on the page. Choose your favorite car rental company after comparing prices, reviews, and ratings. There are two options for renting a car: basic insurance and special super comprehensive insurance. After selecting them, you can proceed to the payment page. There are also two options for payment, namely paying the full amount in advance and paying a deposit in advance and then booking. Please note that this order can be modified and canceled free of charge. You can also purchase other insurances, book Chinese GPS, etc.
(3) Prepare rental materials after the order is completed.
For our trip to Canada, we chose Alamo Car Rental Company. When picking up the car in Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto, we all presented five forms of documentation for the primary driver and an additional driver, including my husband's and our personal passports, their driver's licenses, a translation of their international driver's license, the rental order and My husband's credit card. Note that whoever is the main driver will pay with his or her credit card.
The main driver’s credit card is required. It must be an international credit card with the Visa/Master logo and needs to be engraved. A credit card limit of at least $500-$3,000 is required for pre-authorization. High-end models require two credit cards for guarantee. Generally, the time for pre-authorization or deposit unfreezing is about 15-30 days.
(4) The main differences between Canada and China.
1) Canadian vehicles drive on the right, just like mainland China.
2) Pedestrians have the absolute right of way, and cars must yield to others.
3) Due to the long winter and low visibility, the Canadian government requires vehicles to turn on low beam headlights even during the day.
4) Drivers and passengers should use seat belts. Children under 8 years old should use a suitable child seat. Children under 12 years old are not allowed to sit in the front row.
5) When driving, be sure not to use your mobile phone to answer calls or surf the Internet.
Violators will be fined up to $500 Canadian dollars.
6) Stop signs must stop. If there is a stop sign or warning sign at the intersection, you must stop first and wait until there are no more cars on the left and right before passing. It is illegal to go straight or turn right
7) Canada allows motorcycles to travel at high speeds. Motorcycles generally travel at a speed of 100 kilometers per hour on highways, so be careful to avoid motorcycles.
8) Always pay attention to the speed limit signs on the roadside, especially on highways, as it is easy to be caught for speeding. Fines range from 50 to 500 Canadian dollars.
