Wangjiatuan Shi Cun Garden Su Min
This project is located in Wangjiatuan Village, Weihai City, Shandong Province, China. This is a small village with a history of one hundred years. On the one hand, the original pattern of the village is intact, the traditional style is obvious, and it has high cultural and tourism value; On the other hand, with the decline of agriculture and the migration of population, a large number of houses are idle and lack of vitality.
On the premise of retaining the rural features and regional characteristics, improve the quality of human settlements, stimulate rural industries and invigorate the countryside; This project attempts to explore the proposition that people can meet the needs of exquisite life while increasing their income. As a designer, maybe you can only contribute your strength through design.
Architecture overview
Like the other three groups of buildings completed by the design team in Wangjiatuan Village, "Shiyuan" is also a residential renovation project. Before the designer took over, the village had invited people to start decoration, and some projects had been completed, but because the design was not in place, the effect was rough and did not meet the expectations of the owners.
Understand the website
Knowing the site is the beginning of design. The ancients in China called it "fragrant dike". The designer found that the two courtyards to be rebuilt are far away from the road, and there is more than 20 meters of open space between the courtyards and the road, and many fruit trees are planted in the venue; There is a tunnel between the two courtyards, which leads directly to the back hill; The back hill is densely planted with tall trees such as persimmon and catalpa bungeana. There is a small clearing cleared by farmers near the building for stacking sundries.

The original building is a typical residential building in Jiaodong: quadrangle form, but not a standard quadrangle, with only the main room and wing on the first floor; Dark gray hanging tiles and rubble masonry walls are thick and gorgeous. Designers especially like the beauty of handwork brought by traditional masonry techniques. In sharp contrast to the current rough and disorderly production state, it gives people "homesickness" and evokes people's reverie of exquisite life.
Keep the original house and transform it into a guest room, and build a new tea kiosk to increase the spatial level.
Trees, mountains and stones have become important elements outside the buildings in the site, and even more attractive to architects. Mountains are the background, trees are the foreground, and they are important landscape elements. As the intermediary between man and nature, stones play a vital role in architectural behavior.

Northern wild garden
The design hopes to create a "wild garden" atmosphere in the northern countryside. Wild means country flavor, not wild; Gardens, not courtyards, should be designed with a certain "literati atmosphere". Therefore, the trees, mountains and stones found during the phase-to-phase process are particularly important, and they will all be "enjoyed" in the new space and become the main landscaping in the garden.
The gazebo, trees and their reflections in the water form a sense of picture.
During the transformation, the trees in the site were mainly preserved. Trees become the starting point of design. In the initial design, new buildings (including catering and logistics services) avoid trees, and then form independent and series courtyards around trees. There is a positive and negative relationship between houses, courtyards, people and trees, and the relationship between seeing and being seen.
The trees in the venue have been preserved, forming a subtle relationship with the newly-built swimming pool.
But unfortunately, because of land property rights, the original plan could not land; New buildings are forced to be simplified and appear in the form of landscape structures-pavilions.
Preliminary plan

"No water and no garden", water can bring aura to the space and effectively improve the temperature and humidity of the small environment, but the northern winter is cold, so the treatment of water landscape becomes a difficult problem. The water feature of the persimmon garden is a shallow pool, about 30 cm deep, surrounded by metal plates. Summer is a still pool, which can be emptied in winter and turned into a playground with sand. The trees in the waterscape are all original in the site. The pool is hollowed out here to form two round holes, and the trees protrude from the round holes, which do not interfere with each other and achieve each other.
The fence formed by the traditional construction technology is in harmony with the modern clean water pool.
Pavilions and pavilions are newly built in design, two of which are located at both ends of the pool. They provide semi-outdoor use space for residents, and also become scenes and control points in the space. The exhibition hall does not simply apply the traditional official form, but strives for modernity and regionality. At the top of the single slope, on the base of the traditional masonry technology, there are window sashes with wooden grating shafts, which have no antique form, but have an idyllic flavor.

The treatment of the courtyard wall also adopts traditional regional techniques, such as paving stones and wooden fences. The new stone, the old stone of the old residential wall and the tiger skin stone of the original courtyard wall (by jointing the stone with cement) constitute a time-space dialogue of traditional technology.

The open space at the foot of the mountain behind the building has also been sorted out and become the backyard of the hotel: grass, catalpa bungeana trees and swings, which are private and comfortable.

Dialogue between the Old and the New: Contemporary Embodiment of Rural Life
Spatial arrangement: There are two original stone houses in the site, which were spontaneously built by residents in recent years, which are larger than the traditional buildings in the village, and the spatial layout conforms to the pattern of villagers' self-occupation. Architects re-planned the spatial layout and streamline from the perspective of B&B operation. The original two buildings are divided into four independent B&B suites, each with a big bed and an extra bed, which can meet the functional orientation of "parent-child B&B".
Retain the original building facade and use steel members to form a gray space at the entrance.
The architect did not deliberately keep the elements such as the stove and the kang of the original residence; On the contrary, it strengthens the public activity space of the hotel, increases the area of the living room (living room), increases the independent bathroom, and skillfully connects the living room and the rest space in series. The appearance of the original residence is completely preserved, and only a steel canopy and a rest seat are added at the entrance to meet the new functional requirements. On the basis of emphasizing comfort, indoor environment design emphasizes the contrast between the old and the new and the rural nature. The overall space materials are mainly white brushed walls, gray terrazzo floors and oak furniture, and the simple and comfortable indoor space contrasts with the quaint external environment.

On the soft clothes, the designer chose persimmon red as the main color, which echoed the theme of the project "Persimmon Garden". As a popular color, red is also auspicious and festive, bringing a jumping atmosphere to the original elegant space. In the choice of furniture, the designer collected a large number of old local furniture, such as old tables and chairs, benches, top boxes, sewing machines, etc., and applied them to the spatial layout, which increased the connection between B&B space and local culture and embodied the theme orientation of "local B&B".

A good homestay is a place where humanity, space and service are intertwined. It is necessary to adapt to local conditions and reflect local culture and rural life, but while providing "homesickness", it also needs a comfortable living environment and quality accommodation services. "Persimmon Garden", as a homestay pilot led by the local government, provides a new perspective for local rural construction, that is, from the construction attitude of "I will do whatever I want" to "I will do whatever you want", which is an important change on the road of rural tourism development;
Courtyard night scene
After the completion of the project, many people came to Wangjiatuan to repair and transform the damaged farmhouses for self-occupation or operation, which brought new residents to Wangjiatuan village. Driven by the rural tourism industry, once dilapidated farmhouses are being restored one by one, and once dilapidated villages are gradually showing their opportunities again.

Sujiayuanshe
Sujiayuan is located by the Egret Lake in Moling Street, Jiangning District, Nanjing. Egret Lake is surrounded by mountains, with dense forests on the north bank and mountains and bamboos on the south bank. The diverse landforms in Jiangning area are an important basis for shaping rural space. There are many types of low mountains, hills, hills, plains and basins, which have the characteristics of water towns in the south of the Yangtze River and hills.
Entering from the narrow entrance of Sujia, descending along the gentle slope and passing through the village center, there are more than 30 villagers in the village. Some abandoned public houses and houses are planned to be renovated into small service formats such as shops, tea houses, dessert shops, restaurants and coffee bookstores.
Then go straight inside, the water surface gradually opens up, and a lake-Egret Lake gradually appears on the roadside. The water level of the lake is very high, the water surface is almost flush with the road, surrounded by green hills, which is particularly calm. It is a quiet and far-reaching landscape painting.
Go to the deepest, left hand appeared a shabby half-height red brick wall, covered by an iron gate in the middle. Pushing the door in, I went up a series of steps. It was a single-story yard and a group of abandoned old brick-wood houses. On the right rear of the house is a semi-modern house with two roofs. There are verandahs and tiles on the facade, which are in the style of 1970s and 1980s. On the second floor, to the right, there is a small courtyard. On the first floor, there is a row of wooden auxiliary houses, and at the end, there is a collapsed stone house.
Pinghu, the original house, was transformed from a group of abandoned public houses by the deepest lake of Egret Lake. The house is in front of the lake, behind the mountain, facing the lake and backed by the green forest.
The transformation strategy can be summarized as the "four original" policy: that is, to maintain the "original site, original scale, original landform and raw materials" for transformation.
The original red brick side yard on the west side is reserved and a suite with yard is rebuilt; The main housing reform is the reception hall, and a group of white flat-topped houses are added in front of the sloping roof wing; A new guest room with a white sloping roof on the second floor, a restaurant kitchen on the first floor and a guest room on the second floor will be built behind the main room. The original two-story house behind the living room was preserved and transformed into a guest room; The original and auxiliary rooms on the east side of the second floor were restored as they were, and 4 suites were rebuilt.
Entering the original house, the first part is the main entrance: the original main entrance is adjusted to the west side, and the original entrance facing the lake is reserved as an internal landscape space suitable for staying and resting. Later, a swimming pool was added to this position.
Then enter the reception hall: add courtyard elements at the entrance, enter the yard, and then enter the courtyard. The reception desk is the original main room, which was transformed into a steel reception desk and living room after demolition. The living room faces the lake in the south and terraced hills in the back, so the north is more materialized, and the other three sides are as transparent as possible, so you can see the surrounding scenery.
Wing rooms on both sides: the front wing of the living room was preserved and converted into two rooms, each of which is about 40 square meters, making a small suite. The roof is replaced with green tiles and insulation layer, and the previous wooden frame is used inside. The wing is added with a flat-topped building. As two rooms facing the lake, the area is similar to that of the wing.
This not only keeps the pattern of the main room and wing of the original courtyard, but also strengthens the enclosure of the space, reduces the lake surface and allows the living room to see more lakes. In the enclosure, two original cypress trees were preserved, and a small swimming pool was added. Swimming pools are especially important for suburban homestays. On the one hand, it can increase the appeal to children in winter and summer vacations. On the other hand, family and group construction account for a large proportion of hotel guests. The swimming pool is a good facility for games and activities.
Behind the front courtyard building of the living room is the backyard, which retains an old house with a two-story brick-concrete structure. Simple decoration, roof renovation, window position adjustment to meet the living needs. Two staff quarters and linen offices were built on the first floor, and two suites were rebuilt on the second floor. Another two-story guest room is built in the backyard. The first floor is the kitchen and dining room of the whole hotel, and the second floor is the standard room, which is smaller and more compact. Using the space height, five family rooms with local mezzanine are designed.
On the east side of the backyard, there is a group of small courtyards surrounded by warehouses. According to the same transformation principle, four rooms were transformed in the original site. The style maintains the traditional sloping roof wood structure. In this way, three groups of courtyards finally appeared, providing more landscapes and venues for activities.
After its opening, Yuanshe Pinghu quickly became the most popular homestay in Nanjing, with an occupancy rate of over 80%, and won the gold medal of the most popular homestay in China. Behind the success is the systematic and professional operation of the town. On the one hand, the space and atmosphere created by design also played a certain role. As a scarce high-end hotel different from traditional standard hotels, it has become a new punching place for young people with its friendly family atmosphere and beautiful environment.
