From 1987 to 1988, Xiguan was actually a general term for the area outside the west gate of old Guangzhou, and now it is included in Liwan District, which is one of the most representative food symbols in Xiguan. The most famous restaurant in Xiguan is Wen Yuan Restaurant and Shangmo Restaurant (Xiguan is one of the four garden restaurants in Guangzhou, ranking second). In the 1920s, the catering industry in Xiguan was very developed, followed by Yubolou, at the foot of Dexing Bridge, just north of Eighteen Houses.
