Introduction to Taizhou Huangyan Shuikou Stone Pagoda?

Shuikou Stone Pagoda is located on Shuikou Mountain (eastern slope of Datian Mountain), Maoshe Township, 20 kilometers west of Huangyan District, Taizhou City, next to Yingwu Temple. It is now a provincial cultural relic protection unit.

The Shuikou Stone Pagoda was built in the 44th year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1616). It has five levels and six sides, imitating a pavilion-style architectural structure, and is engraved with Buddha statues on all sides, which is vivid. It is the craftsmanship of Wenling Ma Yiquan. The tower has stone bucket arches and pavilion-style roofs. The base is engraved with dragons and lions, and the carving is exquisite. Here there is a mountain on the back and a stream on the river. There are two sources of the big stream and the small stream on the nine streams, which are clear and can be seen. There is the Jiangjun Temple (Yingwu Temple) in the south of the tower, which worships Wen Tianxiang, Du Hu, Mou Dachang, Mou Tian and other anti-Yuan heroes.

The Shuikou Stone Pagoda is a pavilion-style solid tower with an imitation wood structure. The entire tower is made of stone materials. The tower is slender and 10.6 meters high. The Xumizuo at the bottom of the tower is exquisitely carved and rich in content. On its six sides there are patterns such as unicorns and auspicious beasts, carps transforming into dragons, monkeys picking peaches, and carps jumping over the dragon gate. The eaves of the tower are carefully carved, with imitation wood details such as eaves, rafters, tube tiles, and brackets. The brackets protrude from the eaves and the wing corners are raised to protect the tower body from sun and rain. Each floor and side of the pagoda is engraved with Buddha statues. The Buddha statues are carefully carved and skilled in knife skills. First, a Guiji-style niche is carved out of the stone on the pagoda wall, and then the image is carved using the high-relief method. The Buddha statues are relatively well preserved. Each statue has a plump face, drooping ears and shoulders, dignified manner and smooth lines.

Shuikou Stone Pagoda is the only stone pagoda in Taizhou. Due to disrepair, the tower was renovated in October 2006. The tower was announced as a county-level cultural preservation unit in June 1982, and in February 2011, it was promoted to a Zhejiang provincial-level cultural preservation unit.
