Suzaku Gate is the south gate of the Tang Emperor City, named after Suzaku in the Four Elephants represents the south. Under the door is Suzaku Street in the city center. During the Sui and Tang Dynasties, emperors often held celebrations here.

In the third year of Zhenguan (629), Xuanzang left Chang 'an for Liangzhou in order to get the scriptures, and went west along the Silk Road alone through Yumenguan. On the way through difficulties and obstacles, after four years, through dozens of countries, finally reached the Nalanduo Temple in Tianzhu (now India). In the 19th year of Zhenguan (645), Xuanzang returned to Chang 'an and brought back 657 Sanskrit Buddhist scriptures. Emperor Taizong sent the Prime Minister to greet Xuanzang, and the welcoming ceremony was held in Zhuquemen. At that time, the magnificent Suzaku Gate was the main entrance of the imperial city, that is, the south gate of the emperor. Modern archaeology has proved that the five doorways of Zhuquemen are the highest level of ancient capital gates, and together with Fengdanmen and Mingdemen, they form the main entrance of Chang 'an National City, Miyagi City and Imperial City in Sui and Tang Dynasties.
