A Brief History of Gewandhausorchester Leipzig Orchestra

The merchant building in Leipzig, the base of the orchestra, was first introduced in the15th century and was originally used for local cloth trading. In Leipzig, there have been sporadic private concerts since the early18th century, first in the residences of local dignitaries, and then moved to some pubs. Bushang Mansion Orchestra, formerly an orchestra composed of 16 Leipzig citizens and businessmen, was founded in 1743 and practiced and performed in the "Three Swan Hotel" in the city center in the early days. Until 1780, Leipzig citizens suggested that the vacant floor of Bushang Building be converted into a concert hall. With the consent of the mayor and the support of the city Council, the concert hall was quickly rebuilt. The following year, the orchestra moved upstairs to operate, and then went upstairs as the base concert hall, and the orchestra began to use its current name.

1835, the orchestra welcomed the most famous chief conductor in history-the romantic composer Felix Mendelssohn. 1840, the orchestra was nationalized by * * and belonged to the Leipzig municipal government. However, there is only one floor of the merchant building, which is not enough space for the orchestra. 1884, the orchestra moved to the second generation concert hall of Beethoven Stra & szlige. During World War II, the second-generation concert hall was bombed by allied forces at 1943. From then on 1984, the orchestra temporarily moved to the Parliament Building on Pfaffendorf Road.

198 1 year, the third concert hall was completed. The orchestra moved into the new concert hall. The new concert hall is equipped with a world-famous large organ. The organ is engraved with the motto of the orchestra for many years, "Ressever Estverum Gaudium".
