The crown is usually a symbol of the monarch's status. However, in modern times, the monarchs of many countries may never actually wear a crown, and the crown pattern may only serve as the emblem of their family. For example, the Kingdom of Belgium has no coronation ceremony. There is a ceremony in Orthodox weddings called crowning, in which the newlyweds are crowned the king and queen of their future family.
