"There are thousands of islands in Sweden, but there is only one island, which is located outside the lake and hidden in the mountain city. This is my home. " -Kang Youwei

19 13 When Kang Youwei had to flee abroad because of the failure of the Reform Movement of 1898, he bought an island in Sweden with 36,000 kronor.

Now 100 years have passed. Who does this island he bought with huge sums of money belong to?

Kang Youwei, a native of Danzaosu Village, Nanhai County, guangzhou fu, Guangdong Province, fled Beijing after the failure of the Reform Movement of 1898, and began his 16-year overseas exile career.

During his exile abroad, Kang Youwei also achieved many first-person achievements. For example, he is the first person in China to realize global tourism. He was the first person in China to see the Northern Lights with his own eyes. ...

1940, when Kang Youwei went into exile in Sweden, he was immediately attracted by Swedish customs, as if he had a sense of belonging in his soul.

This sense of belonging is something he has never felt before. From then on, in Kang Youwei's mind, Sweden was his ideal kingdom.

He not only praised Sweden's enlightened royal family, but also praised Sweden's "social stability and rich people." There seems nothing wrong with these words.

However, scholars who study Kang Youwei in modern times think that he exaggerates Sweden too much, and is actually mocking the social trend of China in the late Qing Dynasty.

Since then, Kang Youwei, who lives in Sweden, has been immersed in Qiandao Lake in Sweden every day, enjoying the life redemption brought by nature.

By chance, he came to Baden, a remote town in Sweden, and stopped in this quiet and peaceful paradise far from the secular world.

Through communication with villagers, he learned that Baden Dune has the reputation of "the spirit of the lake", which made Kang Youwei more fascinated by it.

For the next few months, he lived here, strolled around Baden in the sand dune, and occasionally climbed the mountain alone to watch the sunrise.

Sometimes, I will take wine and delicacies with the local villagers, take a gorgeous yacht and float to the end of the sea, and then sleep on the floor in the moonlight at night.

Life is different from a fairy who is far away from the secular world, so Kang Youwei has the idea of living and practicing on this island for a lifetime.

At this time, he learned from the mouth of the villagers that there was a beautiful island opposite Baden in the sand dunes. Although the island is small, it is small and beautiful, with lush trees.

Surrounded by the sea on all sides, natural reefs have become a unique landscape on the island and have not been inhabited so far. Suggest Kang Youwei to visit.

Kang Youwei heard that there is such a beautiful fairy island? He immediately climbed Baden Peak, a sand dune, and looked out from a height at the fairy island mentioned by the villagers.

"You see, this island is surrounded by blue water. It shines like a pearl, especially against the surrounding green trees, and is connected with the distant mountains. Even the fairy hand cannot describe its beauty. "

At this time, Kang Youwei was completely attracted by this island and thought, "Who can not love such a beautiful island?" It turned out that only he liked the island.

So Kang Youwei immediately paid for the island, intending to live here with his three wives and six concubines, and to be a "fairy" on earth from now on.

In order to build this island, he worked hard from design to construction, and the biggest one was the China Garden built by himself.

After he built it with his own hands, it is indeed the best place to seek peace and rest, away from the noise of the world of mortals, and his residence has also been named "Beihai Caotang" by himself.

In other places, Kang Youwei also generally adopts Chinese structure, and the buildings and decorations on the island are all in a unified Chinese style.

The reason why he has so much is to ease his homesickness. Because his desire to return to China is hopeless for the time being, he can only look at things and feel homesick.

So, why did he go into exile in Sweden? This should also start with his "provocation" to Empress Dowager Cixi.

Just 27 years before he came to Sweden, Kang Youwei was a well-known man of the hour in Beijing and the core figure of the Reform Movement of 1898 in China history.

1895 In May, a young man, Kang Youwei, went to Beijing to study for the exam, but after the defeat of the Sino-Japanese War, he signed the treaty of shimonoseki with Japan.

Hearing this, the patriotic feelings in his heart were instantly ignited. When he returned to his hometown, he found his classmate Liang Qichao and others.

He gave a speech at Song Jun Temple in Cheng Nan, and organized people from all provinces to take part in this year's elevator trial. They jointly wrote to Emperor Guangxu, demanding that the Guangxu Qing government "deal with the aftermath flexibly, stress health and strive for self-improvement".

This move by Kang Youwei and others is a "bus letter" in our history.

Facing Kang Youwei's remarks, Emperor Guangxu sincerely admired this folk scholar, and even Xu Zhijing, a bachelor of imperial academy at that time, proposed that Emperor Guangxu summon Kang Youwei.

Emperor Guangxu agreed without hesitation and ordered Kang Youwei on the spot. As for what they talked about, we have no way of knowing.

But what we know is that Kang Youwei's reputation of "writing on the bus" spread all over the country overnight, and since then, Kang Youwei has become more closely related to Emperor Guangxu.

It was also during this period that Kang Youwei suggested that Emperor Guangxu "judge the situation, discuss the matter on the basis of facts, decide the system according to the overall situation, and swear to reform for the minister."

The simple meaning is that I hope Emperor Guangxu can reform and reform. Emperor Guangxu was very satisfied with his remarks, and then ordered Kang Youwei to comprehensively plan reforms.

Kang Youwei also lived up to expectations. He thought hard day and night and finally came up with a set of reform mechanism, which Emperor Guangxu was very satisfied with.

On June 1898, 1 1 day, Emperor Guangxu officially promulgated the imperial edict of "Ding Mingshi Kingdom", which officially started his and Kang Youwei's political reform.

Looking at Kang Youwei's mode of designing political reform, we can simply understand that the main purpose of political reform is to set up an "institutional bureau" responsible for auditing political affairs.

All the old systems will be re-examined and re-implemented. Not only that, as long as it is the text and arrangement of the New Deal, it will be implemented after being reviewed by the System Bureau.

The bureau is only responsible to the emperor, and the officials of the bureau are also selected by the emperor himself. At first glance, I feel that the government is still more careful.

Under the obstruction of conservative forces, Kang Youwei's system failed, but Emperor Guangxu carried out reforms in another way.

First of all, Emperor Guangxu entrusted Yang Rui, Liu Guangdi, Tan Sitong and Xu Lin with four titles for the new law, and asked these people to issue hundreds of reform letters successively.

This move also caused dissatisfaction among conservatives. Who knows that Kang Youwei continued to write letters with Guangxu's "love" and suggested that Emperor Guangxu select talents from all over the country, hire political experts from the East and the West, and discuss the political system.

If Guangxu agrees to this matter, then all the power of the Qing government in North Korea will be held by reformists, which will undoubtedly push the conservatives to a dead end.

Therefore, the intolerable conservatives immediately wrote to their "protective umbrella" Empress Dowager Cixi, demanding that Empress Dowager Cixi could kill Kang Youwei, who spread rumors and mislead people.

Yi Kuang and other imperial envoys knelt down and asked Cixi to "listen to politics" and never let the Qing government be destroyed by Guangxu. When necessary, Guangxu was abolished and an emperor was established.

Empress Dowager Cixi was extremely angry and could not accept it at all. Guangxi may confuse foreigners in China.

So she decided to take back the power of North Korea into her own hands, and Empress Dowager Cixi officially abolished all the systems established by Guangxu on August 3 of that year.

The Reform Movement of 1898 lasted only 103 days and was overthrown by the conservatives of Empress Dowager Cixi.

1898, 19 In September, Empress Dowager Cixi suddenly placed Guangxu under house arrest in Yingtai and ordered the arrest of Kang Youwei and others.

At this time, Kang Youwei, who was taking refuge in the British legation, heard the news and fled from Beijing to Tianjin overnight with Li Tang the next morning.

Later, for fear of being chased by Cixi, Kang Youwei went south to Hong Kong from Tanggu, Tianjin, and then made preparations to flee to the former site of Japan.

What he didn't expect was that when he arrived at the Japanese port by passenger ship, the Japanese government, which had been supporting him, refused him to go ashore.

It turned out that the Japanese thought that Kang Youwei could never turn over politically after learning that her reform movement had failed. If he is allowed to enter Japan, it will undoubtedly be harmful.

This made Kang Youwei deeply hit. He didn't expect that he would be treated differently. He can't go ashore or die in the harbor, can he?

In desperation, Kang Youwei had to face down and find his Japanese friend Jia and Pinchuan Yoshijiro.

After two Japanese friends went through some twists and turns, the Japanese government reluctantly allowed Kang Youwei to land in Japan.

At this time, Kang Youwei didn't know that if he entered Japan two days later, he might have become the "soul under the sword" of Cixi.

It turned out that the news that Kang Youwei secretly fled to Japan was secretly reported to Cixi by the Qing ambassador to Japan. When Cixi heard about it, she immediately sent someone to a Japanese port to capture Kang Youwei alive.

But when Cixi's people first arrived in Japan, Kang Youwei had already entered Japan and had to return in vain.

Kang Youwei who came to Japan, in order to escape the pursuit of the domestic people, hung out in the circle of Japanese Chinese and rarely took part in political activities.

Dr. Sun Yat-sen of China was preparing for overthrowing the Qing government before the revolution. When he learned about Kang Youwei's talent, he immediately contacted Kang Youwei in Japan through his relationship.

I sincerely invite him, hoping that Kang Youwei can help them overthrow the Qing Dynasty by "revolutionary methods" and save China, which is in danger.

However, the unwise Kang Youwei refused the invitation of Dr. Sun Yat-sen just because he was a diehard royalist.

In his mind, there is only the dynasty system, and anyone who wants to overthrow the dynasty is like a clown who plays with fire and burns himself.

So, after he refused the invitation, he left Japan and came to Canada with a Japanese woman who had just become a concubine in Japan.

Kang Youwei, who came to Canada, lived with his concubine in a villa given to him by Feng, an overseas Chinese in Vancouver.

The villa is built halfway up the mountain, surrounded by endless snow-capped mountains, and on the other side of the mountain is a rainforest with unparalleled scenery. Kang Youwei also took a humorous name "Liao Shitian" for the wedding villa.

Even though Kang Youwei came to Canada, Dr. Sun Yat-sen sincerely invited him to join the revolutionary wave in China, but he refused them one by one.

After staying in Canada for two years, Kang Youwei came to the United States many times. In political speeches again and again, a girl named He Youli was fascinated by Kang Youwei's talent.

And launched a fierce attack on Kang Youwei. Later, they lived together day and night. He Deli of 17 successfully married Kang Youwei, 49, and they had two children after marriage.

Unfortunately, in 19 14, He Youli had a sudden scarlet fever and eventually died after being rescued. Kang Youwei was heartbroken.

After that, he took his Japanese wife and children and began a journey around the world. He often visits western capitalist countries.

He did this in order to revive the Qing Dynasty one day, and he also established the Society for Saving the Emperor Guangxu in Europe.

It can be said that Kang Youwei has been working hard to revive the dynasty. Although the road to revival in Qing Dynasty was arduous, his road to study was colorful.

At this time, he has been "traveling and inspecting" for many years, not only surrounded by wives and concubines, but also specially invited dozens of servants to serve their big family.

In addition, he followed the fashion of "cultivating scholars" in the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, and raised more than a dozen public guests at home, spending at least 2,000 silver dollars a month.

In addition, he later led a family to buy an entire island in Sweden. According to conservative statistics, Kang Youwei spent 36,000 kronor (6.5438+0.5 million RMB) after buying the island and renovating it.

Then, Kang Youwei's economic source mainly comes from three parts.

Work: It can be said that this is his slowest way to make money. Kang Youwei often writes articles and submits them to newspapers, and gets the corresponding contribution fee. He often accepts invitations to give speeches. It is said that after a speech, he can get 5000 silver dollars.

It can be said that these three things are enough for Kang Youwei's family to live a good life. However, after living on a Swedish island for a long time, the domestic political situation changed and Kang Youwei chose to return to China.

With the royalist zhang xun restoration, ditto staged a farce to support Puyi's re-accession to the throne.

1927 In March, Kang Youwei died of food poisoning in Qingdao the next morning after attending a banquet.

After his death, "Kang Youwei Island" was neglected, the house was blown apart by the sea breeze, and weeds grew as high as people.

After World War II, the Swedish government conveniently nationalized all the right to use the islands and land, rebuilt a hotel and renamed it "Hotel Island".

Before the outbreak, there were many tourists visiting Sweden, but few people went to the island where Kang Youwei once lived. The score in Sweden was only 3.6.

Nowadays, this island is hard to find. Many bosses nearby don't even know the architectural traces left by Kang Youwei. Kang Youwei bought China Island.

However, the local overseas Chinese have been handed down from generation to generation and are still used to calling it "Kang Youwei Island".

Today, one hundred years later, if you are lucky enough to land on this island, you will feel the beauty of the paradise described by Kang Youwei, far away from the hustle and bustle of the world of mortals, quiet and pleasant!
