Fuling is located in the middle of Chongqing, in the hinterland of the Three Gorges reservoir area, at the intersection of the Yangtze River and Wujiang River, and is known as the gateway to eastern Chongqing. Economically, it is located in the junction of Yangtze River Economic Belt, Wujiang River Main Stream Development Zone and Wuling Mountain Poverty Alleviation Development Zone, which promotes the economic development of Wuling Mountain and other places. Chongqing is positioned as a central city, the core city of one-hour economic circle, the central city of southeast Chongqing and the central city of southeast Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone.

Fuling was named after Wujiang River, and was called Fushui in ancient times, where Ba Tomb was located. It was the capital of Pakistan during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. In the 30th year of Qin Dynasty (the first 227 years), a county was established, which was the beginning of the establishment of a county in China. It has always been a prefecture, county, state, region and prefecture-level city.

From 65438 to 0998, two cities and one district, such as Fuling City (prefecture level) in Sichuan Province, were merged into Chongqing to establish a municipality directly under the Central Government, while Zhicheng District and Lidu District of Fuling City were merged into Fuling District of Chongqing.
