Is it a crime to steal animals?
Whether it constitutes a crime depends on what animals are stolen and how much. Animals belonging to individuals such as cattle, sheep and pigs also constitute crimes. According to the Criminal Law Amendment (VIII), whoever steals public or private property in a relatively large amount, or who commits multiple thefts, armed burglary or pickpocketing, shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not more than three years, criminal detention or public surveillance, and shall also, or shall only, be fined. If the theft or poaching is endangered wild animals or rare animals, the crime is even greater, and the maximum penalty is death.
