Wanfu temple is located in Huangbai Mountain, northwest of Yuxi Town, Fuqing City, Fujian Province. In ancient times, Huangbai was named for its rich yellow and white wood. In the fifth year of Tang Zhenyuan (789), Putian people were learning Zen from Huineng, the sixth ancestor, and then returned to Fujian. They passed by Bo Huang, loved the beautiful mountains and rivers there, and remembered Master's teaching that "no pains are spared". Because they realized that "Bo Huang tastes bitter", they began to build a temple. Their first name was Prajnaparamita Hall.

In the eighth year of Zhenyuan (792), a courtyard was built in the east of Tang Dynasty, and the scale of the temple was huge. The court named it Jianfu Temple, commonly known as Bo Huang Temple.
