What are the characteristics of eggplant's requirements for light?

Eggplant is a light-loving crop with a light compensation point of 2,000 lux and a saturation point of 40,000 lux. Compared with tomatoes, cucumbers and other fruits and vegetables, eggplant is a vegetable with lower light saturation point. However, low light has a great influence on the growth and development of eggplant, especially on the fruit: when the light is reduced to 1/2, the weight of single fruit is reduced by 50% compared with that under standard light, and when it is reduced to 1/3, the weight of single fruit is only 13%, and the weight of single leaf is only 30% under standard light. Pigments in low-light fruits are not easy to form, especially purple varieties. Different day-length have effects on flower bud differentiation and flower quality of eggplant. The longer the light time, the more vigorous the growth, especially at the seedling stage. Under the long light of 15 ~ 16 hours, the flower bud differentiated early and the flowering node was low. On the other hand, insufficient light leads to late flower bud differentiation and late flowering, and even the number of long style flowers decreases, while the number of middle style flowers and short style flowers increases. Therefore, in the stage of flower bud differentiation at seedling stage, special attention should be paid to ensuring sufficient light time of seedlings to achieve the purpose of early harvest, and attention should be paid to making full use of sunlight through reasonable close planting and other means to achieve the purpose of high yield and high quality.
