The most worthwhile attractions in Putian

1. Meizhou Island

Meizhou Island is located in Xiuyu District, Putian.

This is the hometown of Mazu. The island has beautiful scenery and is known as Penglai in the South.

There are more than 30 scenic spots on the island such as Meiyu Chaoyin, Meizhou Ancestral Temple, and Golden Beach, which are definitely worth a visit.

2. Putian South Shaolin

South Shaolin is located in Licheng District, Putian.

The Southern Shaolin Temple was built in the Tang Dynasty and was razed to the ground by the Qing Dynasty.

It was not until the 1980s that the ruins of the Southern Shaolin Temple were discovered in Putian and rebuilt into the Buddhist holy land it is today.

3. Jiuli Lake

Jiuli Lake is located in Zhongshan Town, Xianyou County, and is the birthplace of Chinese dream-praying culture.

Jiuli Lake has beautiful scenery and is famous for its lake, cave, waterfall and stone. Xu Xiake called it the three wonders of Fujian together with Wuyi Mountain and Yuhua Cave.

4. Ancient Qiao Tower

Gu Qiao Tower is located in Putian City and is the only remaining drum tower in Fujian Province.

The ancient Qiao Tower was first built in the Northern Song Dynasty and has been damaged and renovated many times. The current ancient Qiao Tower was built during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, but it still retains the original structure of the Song Dynasty.

After hundreds of years, the ancient Qiao Tower is still located on the cross street in the center of the old city. It is majestic and simple in style. It is the most complete preserved Qiao Tower building in Fujian and can be called the first floor of the Eight Fujian Qiao Tower.

5. Nanri Island

Nanri Island is located in Xinghua Bay southeast of Putian and is the largest island in Putian.

Since the Ming Dynasty, this place has been Fujian’s defense against pirates and Japanese pirates. Now it has been developed and called a seaside tourist resort.

6. Houhuang Village

Houhuang Village is located in Licheng District, Putian, and is known as "Nanyang style, hometown in dreams".

There are many century-old overseas Chinese houses in each village. Their style is influenced by Nanyang architecture, foreign religions and other diverse influences. It has a strong Puxian flavor and combines the characteristics of Nanyang architecture.

7. Jiulong Valley

Jiulong Valley is located in Chengxiang District, Putian.

The scenic area has beautiful scenery, pleasant climate, beautiful mountains and clear waters, and the singing of birds and the fragrance of flowers.
