In Xiangyun County, Dali Prefecture, it is recorded in "Historical Records" that during the period of Emperor Wu of the Western Han Dynasty, he saw "Caiyunnan appeared" and sent his subjects to interview Caiyun to Yunnan, and called the place Yunnan Station, that is, Xiangyun. The county was the first place called Yunnan. Now the Yunnanyi Ancient Town Scenic Area is rated AAA. Xiangyun County is the largest flat dam in Dali Prefecture. Well-known enterprises include Xiangyun Feilong Company (now moved to Xiangyun County Industrial Park). Now Xiangyun County’s economic and other development is ranked ahead of other counties, and it continues to apply to the State Council for county classification. It is said that it was transferred to Qicai City and Yunnan Qicai Park is being built at the toll station of Xiangyun County. In 2008, when Kunming's urban villages were being renovated, the provincial government was considering moving the provincial capital to Yunnanyi. However, during an inspection, it was discovered that Xiangyun County was short of water and the move was canceled.

Xiangyun County tourism includes: Xiangyun County Ancient City, Yunnanyi Ancient Town Scenic Area, Shuimu Mountain where the tombs of eminent monks are buried during the local regime of Nanzhao and Dali Kingdom, Qinghua Cave with Custer terrain, leisure Qinghai Lake Reservoir with food and accommodation. Xiazhuang is the hometown of Wang Desan, the governor of Yunnan Province in the early revolutionary period, and is also a patriotic base. There is a statue of Wang Desan in the park of Xiangyun County.
