Songji Ancient Town: sōngjigǔzhèn

"Gai" is a polyphonic word, the other pronunciation is "gai", and the pronunciation of Songji is "ji"

< p>According to the place directory, Songjii was built in the Song Dynasty and has a long history. It was originally called "Songziji". This is because there is Songzi Mountain nearby and it is on the edge of the Yangtze River. It got its name from the meaning of "Songshan Irrigation". Later it was called "Songji" for short.

In the past, the water in the Yangtze River was dangerous, and huge whirlpools formed in the river. Passing ships would be trapped in them if they were not careful, and there was a risk of running aground on rocks. It is said that dangerous water is called "irrigation (ji) water" in ancient books, so Songji has this pronunciation.
