Yinshan Rock Paintings
As early as the 5th century AD, the Yinshan Rock Paintings in Wulate Front Banner, Wulate Back Banner, Wulate Middle Banner, and Dengkou County in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region were painted by the Northern Wei Dynasty. Discovered by geographer Li Daoyuan. He made a detailed description in the famous "Shui Jing Zhu". These records are the earliest records of Yinshan rock paintings in the world. However, in the following centuries, no one paid any attention to it. It was not until the late 1930s that the Sino-Swiss Northwest Scientific Expedition discovered several rock paintings. A comprehensive investigation of the rock paintings began in 1976. Since then, many experts, scholars and tourists have visited Bameng every year, and more than 10,000 rock paintings have been discovered, of which nearly a thousand have been photographed and copied. These rock paintings not only reflect the beliefs, aesthetics and worldview of the ancient residents of the Yinshan area, but also reveal their nomadic living conditions.
Yinshan rock paintings are widely distributed, with the largest number on the Black Mountain of Lihar Mountain in the southern part of Urad Middle Banner, extending for more than 5 kilometers from east to west. There are more than a thousand rock paintings in this place alone. There are also a large number of rock paintings on the south slope and top of the mountain not far northeast of Dilihar Mountain, which are adjacent to the rock paintings of Dilihar Mountain, forming a rock art distribution area. On Wayaogou Beishan, about 8 kilometers southwest of Hari Mountain in Dili, there are rock paintings every 2 to 10 meters or slightly further away, with a total of more than 900 paintings. Secondly, on the black rocks in the Beituolingou Mountains in Dengkou County, there is usually a rock painting 2 to 3 meters away, with the furthest distance not exceeding 10 meters, and the total number is more than 500. The densest group of rock paintings is on a cliff facing the north in Melehtu Valley. It is about 50 meters from east to west and about 20 meters high. It consists of about 80 human heads. The other one is on a stone wall facing the west in the middle section of Gehe Shangde Valley. It is about 5 meters wide and 15 meters high. It is composed of 50 individual paintings.
The largest rock painting area is the square rock painting on the stone on the west side of the dam ditch entrance in Urad Hou Banner, covering an area of ??about 400 square meters. It is listed as a key protected cultural relic in the autonomous region. On May 25, 2006, Yinshan rock paintings, as stone carvings from the Neolithic to the Bronze Age, were approved by the State Council to be included in the sixth batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
