On August 12, the Seismological Bureau of China released that the maximum intensity of Jiuzhaigou earthquake with magnitude 7.0 reached 9 degrees, and the total area of areas with magnitude 6 and above was 18295 square kilometers, which caused disasters in eight counties in Sichuan and Gansu provinces.

Jiancheng Lei, spokesman of the on-site team of Seismological Bureau of China, introduced at the press conference that the 9-degree earthquake zone involved Zhangzha Town, Jiuzhaigou County, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, with an area of 139 square kilometers. Badu District covers Jiuzhaigou County, covering an area of 778 square kilometers.

The earthquake caused serious damage to the tourism landscape and tourism infrastructure such as Nuorilang Waterfall and Huohuahai in Jiuzhaigou, and had a great impact on the local natural landscape and ecological environment. The local government is making a scientific and prudent plan for the protection, restoration and reconstruction of natural heritage.

At present, Sichuan province has begun to organize professional forces to carry out post-earthquake safety appraisal of buildings in disaster areas.
